Boston Wildlife

A few weeks back, I took a pic of what I thought was a bald eagle (but, maybe one of the peregrine falcons that nest on top of Church Park—with an oddly white head? Cause, bald eagles in Boston, whaaaat??). This was in the alley behind Dunks on Mass Ave at the Berklee School. The critter had snagged himself a rat, and eventually flew south with it once he noticed me lurking. Huge wingspan, too: he got up to like 60 feet high with barely three flaps of the wings. Amazing morning.

Edit to add: I called the bird a him. Nothing to say it wasn't a her, but I wasn't gonna get any closer to confirm!! It was a big-ass bird with talons who captured a rat. Him, her, whatever. It was just cool to see!

I think that's just a juvenile red-tailed hawk, with the banded tail.

I don't really know birds at all, so, I appreciate the identification. It was just such an amazing few minutes watching wildlife do wildlifing.

Around here the answer is usually red-tailed hawk. And if you're watching a movie or TV show and there's any kind of eagle, particularly a bald eagle, you will likely hear a red-tailed hawk's cry, because bald eagles sound sort of ridiculous IRL.
