Per a recent Boston Globe Article, the Forbes auction that was suppose to take place Today, Oct 7th, was cancelled. City Manager mentioned that they City learned that there was an unknown party who probably wanted to make a lucrative offer to purchase the site.... site would be a battery facility (maybe Tesla?).

Tesla has been actively trying to have the City re-zone the former Boston Paintball Area (Home Depot Plaza) so it can be a future Tesla Body Shop Facility.

The former Salvation Army Retail location in downtown Broadway, slated to be a mix of 28 affordable rental & home ownership units has been updated to be all affordable home ownership units in light of a new financing opportunity for affordable home ownership.

This change also allows for the project to start a year earlier... construction may now begin as soon as fall 2023.

The City's planning board approved the TND- 170 Cottage Street development project slating way for 66 affordable units (12 one-bedroom apts, 43 two-bedroom apts, 11three-bedroom apts) and 72 underground parking spots. This project will also include an open green space.

Developers hope to start construction as soon as spring 2023.

Forbes Site update by GreenRoots on 10/7/22:

The owner has worked out a settlement with the Bank to avoid foreclosure. As a result, the planned auction will not take place, however, GreenRoots (and any other party) will be outreaching the Forbes owners with purchase proposals.

GreenRoots was ready to bid $6+ Million for the site.

More information to come...

Wow, Chelsea needs to end parking requirements. 72 space underground garage will be driving the cost of this way up.

Unrelatedly, are there any market rate proposals making it through in Chelsea? Or just affordable?

Massachusetts Development to Bring a Mix of Housing Opportunities

“MassHousing is providing $10.4 million in financing to The Neighborhood Developers (TND) to transform a former light industrial site into 62 new mixed-income rental and homeownership units in Chelsea, Massachusetts.

As part of the 25 Sixth Street development, TND will create six new homeownership units, which will be affordable to moderate-income first-time home buyers under MassHousing’s CommonWealth Builder Program.

The Legislature has committed $115 million in federal funds from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to scale up the CommonWealth Builder program, and 25 Sixth Street is the first homeownership project in Massachusetts to utilize ARPA funding, according to officials.”
