Hey guys, my band and I are out in Cleveland for most of this month recording our first full-length album at a studio on the east side of downtown, where I have access to the rooftop of two of the twenty-something buildings in the down-but-not-out industrial complex known as Tyler Village.

It kicks serious ass being able to pop up here and clear my mind whenever I need a break from the slow-going process of making music in the studio, which is a lot like construction in how quickly and drastically things can (and did!) fall behind schedule.

Yup, this is the skyline... with a 15 second exposure and the ISO down way low

Dude! I fucking love Cleveland! One of the Rust Belt cities with enormous potential, and actually seems to be doing something about it. Beautiful photos.

And recording music there must be insane! That city (well, Ohio in general) produces some of my absolute favorite rappers and musicians. Kid Cudi, Blueprint, Rjd2...I'm drawing blanks right now but you get the idea. Congratulations on working on a studio album, you can be sure I'll check it out when it's finished.

Nice photos, kz. Some really nifty brick work in some of those surrounding buildings.

If you guys produced death metal, that last pic would make a great album cover.

I have been to Cleveland several times over the last 12 years and it really is a sad, boring city. Your pictures are nice, but Cleveland is a typical rust belt city.

Like Detroit, Cleveland has little to be proud of, or happy about. Aside from the Cleveland Clinic and The Rock and Roll HOF, Cleveland is just a large town.

My Detroit fam allways loved to call Cleavland the Mistake by the Lake, but really Detroit was no better, probably worse. I really hope both rebound, but both are still plauged w/ violence and other issues.

Kennedy when mentioning Cleavland music one must mention Bone Thugs N' Harmony an awsome original act. Can't say that about many bands/musicians. Also RIP to Boston's own, the highly underrated Guru (from Gangstar)

Symphony orchestras seem to be like roast beef stands. They are all "World Famous".

I was bummed about this yesterday. My favorite Guru track is on this record, a perennial party favorite at Chez Brut.

Cleveland is also known for its...world-famous symphony orchestra...

George Szell made them a top-tier orchestra. His recordings of the Schumann, Brahms, Dvorak, and Bruckner symphonies are all reference-quality. the original vinyl (on Epic/CBS) are prized by collectors. I believe most of these recordings are currently available on the Sony imprint today.

I saw the CO in the early 90s under their long-time music director Christoph von Dohn?nyi at Symphony Hall. The played the bejesus out of the Bruckner 7th.

Yes and no...The CO is one of the Big Five. The term is a bit old-school, but it still means something.
