East Boston Infill and Small Developments

Great photos, Beeline. I love the number of new townhomes and small apartments going up over Eastie

Damn, I kinda want to move to Eastie now.

Its definitely one of my favorite neighborhoods, the biggest negative is no pedestrian connection to downtown, but transit wise youre 1 stop away.

What I like more than Dorchester is that the streets are on a grid, theres much more brick buildings, and the lot sizes are much smaller. In dorchester most buildings are detached from eachother and theres a lot of space around each house. Its dense but it feels much more suburban with so much unused space. I like how in eastie its more like an nyc borough where its really dense and most buildings are built right up against eachother.

Not sure if this is the right place for this...

I just moved to East Boston and for a really dense and rapidly changing neighborhood in Boston, also separated by water on 3 sides, East Boston lacks a lot of retail/services.

The population of East Boston is almost 50k in a small area - yet it seems like there strangely still isn't a lot of coffee shops, bars, gyms, stores, etc. I am not too experienced in the space of community development and/or zoning, but it feels like something is off or went wrong.

Also - there is a lot of vacant lots and buildings which are taking a bit to be redeveloped on soon-to-be very valuable land. Maybe this will all change.

This short documentary should help explain things. Not enough Denzels to go around.

I don't live in East Boston but as someone who spends a lot of time exploring various coffee shops and cafes all around Boston, I agree, East Boston is sorely lacking in that department. Only a few options (e.g. Americano Espresso Bar).

This is an amazing thread, really great pics by @BeeLine and thoroughly enjoyable to peruse. I'm embarrassed to say that, even though I work one day a week just outside Maverick Square, I somehow hadn't noticed all this cool construction. I clearly need to spend longer lunches walking about the neighborhood.

I noticed last night that there's a new East Boston Police Station almost complete behind Eagle Hill near the Chelsea St Bridge. It will be getting rid of a lot of parking issues at the current precinct in Maverick. Does anyone know what the plans for the current Paris St station are? It would be a prime spot for redevelopment, or it might just end up as a neighborhood station in Maverick...
