I disagree. Yes there are politics involved but the politics relate to the development itself, when it will open, what it will be called and what it will look like if not a Wynn property.
 
Apparently MGM was uncomfortable with all the attention the preliminary sales talks with Wynn Resorts was getting, so they pulled out.
I'm sure Springfield is not feeling too confident about MGM's commitment anymore after this.

A regulatory body imposing personal fines on an individual employee of a license holder with insufficient due process and then making up a training requirement out of thin air.

I admit I have disliked the Gaming Commission concept from the beginning, but I think this confirms that it was a mistake to set up a commission with such far reaching power to regulate thousands of people's livelihoods which isn't responsible to any elected executive.

How did the gaming commission not uncover that Wynn Corporation had assault charges against its CEO at the time? Wouldn't that be public record?

Also most of the side deals going on with all development deals can we honestly admit that most corporations have sometype of crimes against them? Your telling me that GE has not settled or has been accused of sometype of assault charges being in business for 100 years? Then our elected officials hand them a piece of prime real estate in the Seaport for peanuts.

Why would the city/state promote gambling but not actually support the industry without real infrastructure upgrades in around this area? I find this the most disturbing part of the situation. Also who gets the 35 Million? The victim or a group of scummy political hacks?

It sounded like MGM could have been looking at this as a piece of a shell game... sell Springfield to Mohegan Sun to kill the Windsor CT proposal, then restart movement on a MGM Casino in Bridgeport, CT to better tap into the New York Metro market

I think you are missing the fact that not only is there a determination by the Gaming Commission as to the casino operator's suitability to hold a casino license, there is also a determination of the suitability of each of the high level employees that the licensee includes in its application. Maddox was of course among the dozen or so Wynn employees on the casino license application. That is why he can be fined individually after the Gaming Commission determined he was not in full compliance with all of their regulations. Wynn could have decided not to make Maddox once of its "qualifiers" in its application for the casino license.
 
Encore has been given the green light to serve alcohol until 4 am to those on the gaming floor actively gambling.

Probably the right decision but so easy to take advantage of. Take a dollar bill and insert it into a penny slot machine (every casino has at least a few of those those right?) and play penny slots while you drink. Then you can drink from 2:00am-4:00am for relatively cheap.

I mean why not if you have the cash and want something to do. Now the rest of the city needs this tbh
 
Wow, that is great news. The challenge will be since all the bars in downtown close at 2am, there will a massive influx of drunk people at 2:30am raising hell and getting drunker. I hope the Encore people are able to effectively manage this until the novelty dies down and this can stay in effect, vs. things getting out of control, the plug gets pulled on 4am and we are back to square 1.

I think this could be a good test case for Boston as a whole. If this works, it can be used as evidence that Boston's bars can stay open later than 2am.
 
Until 4am is closing time for dive bars this is no victory. When the barflies and strike-outs can sip a Bud until the birds start chirping, then Boston will surely be able to call itself a world-class city.

Bars should be allowed to stay open until 3:30 am on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and the night before a federal holiday. Have last call be at 2:45 am or 3:00 am then then let people have 30-45 minutes to finish up their drinks and then leave.

I don't think I am missing that... the "suitability" thing is a big red flag in terms of the rule of law. Having a law setting up a commission accountable to no one that can make all sorts of arbitrary decisions over a cash cow artificial monopoly where billions of dollars are at stake. It was like they decided to look at Vegas' regulatory framework and said "hmm... how can we make this more susceptible to corruption"

well then head to the penny slots get a drink and then stop playing as soon as you have your drink, a little gambling tax of a few cents to get yourself a drink at 3am
