Equality Community Center | 23-25 Casco Str. | Portland

There was one committee member who inquired about this development being higher at the last workshop - I can't remember what exactly DC said in response, but I think it came down to them being affordable units + how it's being funded and/or incentives that made it not possible to go higher. It is a shame, though.
Agreed, very unfortunate. The city needs to figure it out. If they want affordable housing they need to provide funding and loans to the developers in charge to make it happen.

Tweaked design and colors going before the PB:

nomc, is there any activity at 465 Congress Street yet? Have not been downtown in a while due to an escape to Florida.

When I walked through Monument Square this weekend the doors on Congress were boarded up. Through the upper windows it looks like demo is well under way.

This was originally proposed over 5 years ago, and the very first post says it's "slated to begin construction in early 2021." So in 5 years we got the design updated from a tacky 4-over-1 to a bland 4-over-1. What the heck happened here?

It's being built by a nonprofit that doesn't have Avesta's institutional knowledge of funding grants and working the system.

The city should help them with connects to sources. Be creative and proactive, not a Gov type of mentality. Wave the workforce housing requirement for Redfern's next 2 builds and maybe they will do it. And it should be built 15 stories high as there is still a SERIOUS shortage of affordable housing. I'm tired of all the complaining. Be a model for the nation of how to do things right.
