Fan Pier Developments | Seaport

There are sensors embedded in the SL busway for the D Street light, but nobody has bothered to program the damn controller properly since it opened six years ago. It would take minutes to fix. Minutes.

I'm assuming it's because it might offend a single car driver, or doing so requires approval from the MBTA, Massport, DCR, Turnpike Authority, Mass Highway Authority, Mass Limited Access Highway Authority, Mass Roads With Sidewalks That Have More Than Two Lanes But Fewer Than Five Authority, Boston Police, State Police, Mayor Menino, the regulars of three bars in Southie, and a guy named Jimmy who says "No".

It's probably been mentioned ad infinitum here...

There was always a plan for a future phase of the Silver Line called "T Under D" which does exactly that. I'm not sure where that stands, but probably a funding issue awaiting development and a ridership increase to justify it.

Local Door Stops & Coat Holders 706 appreciates the recognition of their importance in the decision making process.

I'm sure that even a short tunnel would take years to build. Unless the sensor loops are for show, the problem could be fixed now. Right now.

In the same way that the SL transit time could be cut dramatically by letting it use the special entrance directly around the corner from Silver Line Way.

All it takes is a call and the will to cut through the petty Massachusetts red tape and territorial pissing contests. No one is willing to make that call. We don't have people like that in power.

Fixing the sensor controller seems like a no-brainer, agreed.

I'm actually surprised to hear that intersection of the SL at D Street is busy. I haven't been over there in some time.

Are the tie-ups with truck traffic to/from the BMIP or general auto traffic?

I find this fascinating. Do you know anywhere I could find background info on this? I can search but thought you might know since you posted this.

I'm thinking this might make for a better article than the city Tom built or the cowardice of Scott Brown.

Well it's really a product of observation. You've got sensor loops chilling in the pavement for a reason (I couldn't get in close enough to see the SL placement), and a light control box a few feet away on the bridge. You send a tech out, they open the box and give priority to the bus lanes approaches. Done. It's literally the simplest thing to do, and something that happens all over the state every day of the week.

Worst case scenario: There are no working sensor loops in the busway. You go out and install them in a couple of hours. Again, this happens on existing roadways every day of the week. A crew cuts the pavement with a special saw, lifts it, drops the sensor in, and lowers the slab back where they found it. Then they run a wire to the control box. Done.

I can only assume the word has come down from some special interest to ensure that SL buses don't get priority over the precious, precious cars on D St. Or that in typical MA fashion, the road is split up into 20 jurisdictions and the box itself is under Massport authority or some nonsense like that. I have no idea how things are organized out there. Except that a very simple thing can't get done, which points to an organizational problem.

The fact the buses don't get priority, and the most immediate fix is "build a tunnel!" makes me think that stupidity or some deep-seated bureaucratic fear of pissing off someone with a lot of power is at work here.

So Ive gone ahead and captured every angle. All of them. (see yesterday for closeups)

Im serious guys. Every angle.

Here is a teaser, I have 10+

What an awkward hunk of shit One Marina Park Drive is. I've never seen a cube look so top-heavy. It soars like an ostrich.

^^^^
Defintely have to admit that One Marina Park Drive development is not going to make the #1 spot on Architectural Digest.

It would have been much better without the glass tumors.

Talk about ruining the last great space of Boston.

NO VISION----Lets relocate Cambridge's Biotech to the Seaport District
NO CREATIVITY----and add a school or two AND call it the Innovation Distict
NO VALUE-----A-Taxpayers MONEY PIT-making the city of Boston #1 employer in the city. HOORAY

Yeah telling Kraft to screw was great for the city of Boston.........The INNOVATION DISTRICT...The Definition:---this district really does not know how to create private jobs, they actually give tax breaks to companies that are willing to relocate from one area to this area.

Hopefully #2 building can help the first POS this clown just built

I saw posters on the T that Red Bull is sponsoring a high dive competition where they will be diving off the roof of the ICA. That is rad! Also funny comparison to the Borg.
