Speaking of memories....

The skyscraperguy.com watermark.

This site's grandpapi.

Talk about a walk down memory lane.

Growing up in Eastie near Maverick (one of the best views of town there is!) I enjoyed watching alot of downtown towers going up as well as the wharf condos in the north end and charlestown.

great set od photos!!

thanks

Nice finds! Any of the Federal reserve going up?

Neat finds. I could go for a 30th anniversary storm of the '78 blizzard.

My favourite is the one of the lady on the train platform with 1 beacon all finished.

^^^

I don't know, that looks like it could be a little cold in winter if they're leaving it that way. I'm sure you meant to say 1 BP as obviously 1 Beacon is a bit naked.

Haha, my bad. I did mean 1 BP, which is one of my favourite skyscrapers even though I usually have more mainstream taste.

The Central Artery photo is cool because it shows a transitional state that lasted only about a year. The elevated highway is one-way southbound, and the northbound lanes are being torn down. In a few years, people will be amazed how close the highway was to Marketplace Center.

Wow, this is an amazing thread...I've always wanted to see how Boston was, and how it transformed, since I was born in 91 and I never got to see Boston transform (or realize what was happening when I was younger lol) But this is amazing, I always ask my dad what it used to be like in Boston since he went to school in Boston his whole life and took the T into Boston everyday (he went to Don Bosco for High school, and Suffolk University for college), but my dad is always modest and doesn't give me a lot of information about how it has changed. These pictures are exactly what I wanted to see, seeing Boston change is amazing, and it should be funny in like 20 years when Boston has changed even more, and I remember back to how it is now.
Sorry for going on and on, but this was just an impressive thread. thank you very much

These are great KZ. Thanks for posting these.

Glad everyone enjoys them..

I named this thread "flickr finds" because I figure this could be the place where we post other people's photos, be them from Flickr, Photobucket, or wherever. And the key here is to make sure you credit the original poster. Soooo, please do search around for new material and post your finds here.

And for those who don't know, Flickr is hands down the greatest photo posting/sharing site out there. It's very easy to spend an hour or more on the site, and I've found everything from the obvious (spectacular pics of the California wildfires that raged a month ago) to the obscure (shots of the lobby of the hotel I stayed at when I visited Disney World in '98). Make use of this incredible resource!

Boston was a desperate city back then.

I wish I could qoute exactly and knew the date of the article but back in perhaps the 1930's, Fortune Magazine said something like - Boston is dead and Boston will never come back.

Great finds, thanks for posting.

It seems that Boston was in the midst of an unprecedented building boom in the late sixties and early seventies. So much so that more of Boston's skyline was shaped thirty and forty years ago as compared to the present, when many US cities are transforming.

These are great. The next "big" thing I remember seeing pop up after these were taken was the State Street Bank on Franklin St.
