One Beacon would be a great candidate for some floor plate cut-outs to create light wells / more window area for a residential conversionIf anyone threatens touching One Boston Place I'll be part of the whiny late modernism conservationists that comes to its defense.
You can fully demo One Beacon though.
I respect your opinion, but in my opinion, One Boston Place is the least attractive skyscraper on our skyline. I don't even mind City Hall and other brutalist or modernist structures. I think it's that One Boston Place has such a prominent location and is seen from SO MANY angles, especially the iconic shots across the Public Garden. For instance, I just hate that One Boston place ruins the image below with its boxy top. Maybe that's my main issue with the building. Get rid of that box on top, and it might be OK.If anyone threatens touching One Boston Place I'll be part of the whiny late modernism conservationists that comes to its defense.

This 100%, I never got the hate for one boston place. Its a perfectly fine looking building and somehow even though boxy towers are universal… this particular look with the smaller box on its roof is unique and instantly recognizable. Also…. black facade and cross bracing. Making it another anonymous blue glass box from anywhere would be a net negative on the skyline. We have a decent amount of blue glass towers now, its a pretty good mix, lets not go overboard like so many other cities. If anyone threatens touching One Boston Place I'll be part of the whiny late modernism conservationists that comes to its defense.

Wow, that is my new favorite building. Everything about it is a masterpiece.I cant believe I never knew about this absolute gem of a cast iron building in the north and.
I cant believe I never knew about this absolute gem of a cast iron building in the north end.
I remember first learning about this building when there was a listing I saw somewhere a few years ago. Super cool interior windows as well. Wonder if there's a map of cast iron buildings in Boston somewhere? Devonshire between Summer and Winthrop Square has some good examples.

100%I know quite a few on this Forum appreciate these two buildings, but I feel they could really use a facade update like 1 PO Square. In my opinion, One Boston Place could be improved dramatically by adding a crown or spire of some kind. I feel both towers detract from this excellent skyline view.

Hey, that's me! Thanks for sharing. I was planning on a series of the extant cast-iron structures in the city. I got a bit sidetracked by wrapping my Masters' thesis (and then moving to Michigan) but I do have photos of the other structures ready to go. I can share my list soon; it's confirmed intact structures plus some partially surviving structures.I cant believe I never knew about this absolute gem of a cast iron building in the north end.
