Looks like potentially an extension to the curbing and 2 crosswalks being added (Danforth and Pleasant) in Gorham's Corner in front of the John Ford monument.

Guessing from the cones and the painted outline, it could create a nice park-like setting, in addition to some traffic calming/pedestrian safety.

The existing intersection is so horrible from a pedestrian perspective.
 
Here's the scoop - with more people living in the Art's District and walking to/from the Old Port, and more destinations drawing people from the Old Port to the Art's District, it's traffic calming before a pedestrian gets hit in this horrible intersection. The catch is that it's in a trial period for the summer to see how the traffic flows.

Where there would potentially be permanent side walk extensions to shorten the distance of the crosswalks, there will be murals painted on the existing street surrounded by temporary pylons to change driver behavior. The city will be looking for feedback, so hopefully anyone here who values the culture of a walkable city over more traffic will provide a favorable review to the city. You know who they will hear from - the distracted, aggressive drivers that didn't want to stop in the first place. There will be some sharp turns, and potentially the intersection will be tested with blinking red lights in all directions. That should make the guy in the pickup truck who almost hit the person in the crosswalk today happy, he'll be the one complaining to the city. :)

Part of the problem is that this is basically a highway incoming from the bridge. But it the danger to pedestrians isn't going to get lower once the 230 odd units at Mercy are fully occupied and those people start walking to the Old Port.

I see the Legion on Atlantic St is up for sale - it is within the Munjoy historic district but is noncontributing, so might be a great lot for redevelopment. Anyone know why it looks like this? A bizarre bunker attached to a beheaded multistory?

What a mess. I wonder if the city will give these guys the boot and get someone else in to finish the job next year?
 
Asked for an update on the project and its timeline Friday, Gordon Contracting President Brian Howard said in an email, “It’s in legal and I’m not at liberty to disclose until the paperwork is finalized.”

Either renegotiating terms or maybe pursuing a contractor default? Aside from the obviously unfinished stuff, the quality of the work is poor. If they have the ability I hope they bring someone else in.
