Gillette Stadium Transportation Improvements

Has there ever been a proposal to run a train to the stadium from Worcester? It could run Worcester to Framingham, making all stops. Then the Framingham Secondary to the stadium.

I feel like you could fill one train on that route.

Serious proposal no, but there was an attempt by some people near Framingham to get a train from there. MBTA shot it down.

Interesting. Do you have a source for that? Or remember how long ago that was?

The T didn't say no. They were asked a little over a decade ago by a private business group (soon after the state bought the Framingham Secondary from CSX and started doing state-of-repair upgrades on it) about doing a Worcester game train, and the T agreed to do a non-revenue timing run to inform the service plan for the proposal. The business group ended up not liking the travel times they were quoted after the timing run and withdrew their proposal in-full. It wasn't publicized anywhere in the press, but was leaked on RR.net by employees aware of the proposal and the timing run.

The Framingham-Walpole segment of the Framingham Secondary only has a 30 MPH passenger speed limit because of the Class 2 track, and it's a far longer stretch of 30 MPH than what the Providence game trains do between Mansfield-Foxboro (about 3x as long) so the travel times weren't remotely competitive with the transit alternative of a 495 bus (even factoring Route 1 backups). Worcester-Framingham on the B&A itself takes 28 minutes on the Lake Shore Ltd., so it's a pretty long trip overall.
 
Well, it's almost 40 minutes from the Framingham Train Station to Gillette right now by car (bus?). It doesn't even suggest going 495, as that would be a bit longer. Not sure what it would be like on Game Day.

That the train would be too slow sounds about right.
