Heading to Vegas!

Just booked my first trip to Vegas march 5-7. Staying at the Luxor. Got 2 nights and roundtrip (non-direct. 1hr layover in Denver on the way there, and flying to LA then Boston on the way back) airfare on United for $340. Good deal?

Whats some of the absolute must dos for someone whose never been and will only be there for 2 days? Not a huge gambler, so will probably be in the casino for a max of 3-4 hours total, or unless i lose it all faster.

I think I def want to see one of the cirque du soleils. Anyone recommend which one is the best?

Any tips in general appreciated. Thanks guys!
 
old UNCLe is telling me PLAYBOY CLUB is what he is liking!!!! And. Always neociate rate with the HOSPITALILITIE WORKERS. he say sometimes get 2 for one deals, but that ALOT OF FOOD to eat if Iam getting the drift of the advise.
 
Make sure you get a room in the pyramid and not in one of the two towers in the back. They may be newer, but the pyramid is cooler.

For sure, biggest private development in the US, and it's almost done


Perhaps try the monorail? Its $5 however.... the shuttle in front of the luxor is free.
 
I took the monorail to it's end just to take it.

I enjoyed going to the top of the Stratosphere and looking out over Vegas to the mountains beyond.

I enjoyed riding the roller coaster that is part of the New York, New York casino.

Check out a light show at the Fremont St Experience.

I went and played a couple games of craps at a bunch of casinos and collected a a $1 chip from each casino for show.
 
I got a room in the pyramid. :D I think the pool will be closed for the season though.

I am probably going to take the monorail to the end of the strip and then walk back. I def want to check out citycenter. Probably head to the casino and pound the free drinks and then just hit a few bars. I'm not the clubbing type, but i love a good bar. I also like the idea of $1 chip per casino.

Has anyone gone to the ghost bar on the top of the palms? Is it hard to get into/crowded? I was thinking of checking that out for a drink and a couple photos too.

The development nerd in me wants to get a few shots of the stalled echelon project.

worst part of all is that it's not for another 2 months but I am excited.
 
If you don't like gambling, forget Vegas for one of your days - trust me, you'll be bored. Rent a car and drive through Boulder City, Hoover Dam, up the west side of Lake Mead and through the Valley of Fire. If you leave in the AM you could still be back in time to catch a show.
 
$340 is a good deal, but that end of the strip is not my thing. I've stayed at Venetian a couple of times and prefer that section of the strip (Venetian/Palazzo/Wynn/Mirage).

A lot of Vegas revolves around the resorts (spa, shopping, casinos, shows). I'd highly recommend "O" at the Bellagio. Check out the Bellagio fountains, especially at night. Most of the restaurants are pretty decent. My favorites were Postrio and Bouchon, both in Venetian. On my last trip, we ate at a steakhouse in Caesars, pretty good, but I forget the name.

One of the biggest things to do in Vegas is just walk around and gawk at the buildings, the scale, the people (and their scale).

don't jaywalk - it's a 200+ dollar fine and if you get hit it's your fault.

With all the outdoor escalators leading to skybridges, you shouldn't really need to jaywalk that often.

Impossible. While the distance may not seem great, there are many psychological barriers that will make you give up and take many of the free train systems.

Or the 100+ degree heat! I did a lot of walking there when I visited and at one point I almost passed out. It was 117 the week I was there, a heat wave! Also, the distances are deceptive. Everything looks pretty close because the buildings are so large and it's so flat, but in reality they are not as close as they look.
