Interesting Transit Mapping Tool

I love this kind of stuff -- maps, transit, data analysis, all rolled into one!

The site will calculate how far you can travel from a given point on the map within a specified time, using public transit. One weakness I've noticed is that it doesn't seem to include commuter rail, depending on location, there could well be some reachable locations that aren't shown.

One thing that really jumps out to me with this tool, is that Boston proper is better served than the communities north of the river. When I do a 30 minute trip time centered on Back Bay station, I can go pretty much anywhere in the city, but not very far at all in to Cambridge and Somerville.

Interesting-- its too bad they don't have a road overlay though based on traffic patterns so that commuters could to a true apples to apples comparison for time into the city.
