I just so happened to be passing through the Dudley area and saw the City of Boston has placed a large sign on a building some time ago stating they're opening new city offices there. ( http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=...oid=kW2csKql3OCJt82-nsvkXg&cbp=12,153.98,,1,5 ) note sign at left it is hard to see.... The building sits where the Washington Street elevated once turned into Dudley Station. Below is on Google Maps in between the convergence of Washington and Warren Streets.

It looks like it could have been a much better looking building in a by-gone time...

You are speaking of the Ferdinand Building, which if you hold your breath until the City moves offices there, you will be dead. The city has been trying to force certain city offices there into a proposed renovated building for years but the unions are not budging over the unsavory character of the area in the eyes of many, though not all. The building was once the anchor building for the Dudley Square retail area and had been used as a furniture store from the late 1800's onward. There is supposed to be some contamination of the site, but I am unsure of its clean up status.

True, however that sign they placed on the building's exterior (in the final link) is very recent. In fact it appears that Streetviews hasn't yet gone all the way around the building, because if you back-up to the Warren street side of the Y intersection, you'll notice the "Dudley Sq. Investing in Neighbourhoods" signage disappears and then it shows a women crossing the street. A block south of there (corner of Washington and Dudley Streets) a new police station is presently under construction. (Street views again hasn't updated that parcel's status as well.)
