John Hancock Tower: The Seat of Evil

CBS's final episode of the post-apocalyptic drama Jericho featured Boston's John Hancock Tower as the headquarters of Jennings & Rall in the Allied States of America's new capital, Cheyenne, Wyoming.
 
Neat.... any way we can get a youtube clip or anything? anyone TiVo it?

I love when TV and Movies do things like this. The movie "Underdog" uses a hybrid of Boston, Providence and New York as it's background skyline for many of the scenes and it's pretty funny to look at and see the buildings blended together.

Hahaha ya, I was watching that last night, and I saw that, and I immediately was like "woah, that is the Hancock Tower" haha I told my dad that it was and he didn't believe me
i am glad someone else noticed haha
 
Are both photos from the TV show, or just the first one? The second one shows the real neighboring buildings in Boston (Copley Plaza hotel and Old Hancock Building).

Both are captures from the full episode, available online. The first is obviously doctored.
 
Looking around on Google StreetView a bit, I see that the second shot is actually at Clarendon and Stuart, so the building on the right is not the Copley Plaza. Still, this is very sloppy TV production, since anyone familiar with Boston will recognize the Old Hancock in the background just to the right of the New Hancock.
 
Why is this a good thing?

The producers of the show were probably looking for for a cool looking, but relatively unknown, generic glass building and so they picked the Hancock. :(

I would like to think it is more well know and recognizable than that.

Couldn't they find some random building in Houston to use?

Or... an ex-Emersonian was sitting around his tv production office in LA trying to think of an awesome building to use as a stand in and, of course, he thought back to an awesome building he used to see back in his old college days. Note: this hypothetical person did a lot less coke than your average Emerson student, thus preserving at least a few neurons for future use.
 
^ The Hancock's beauty is best revealed when it is viewed in its context. The clip from Jericho (you crazy kids with your post-apocalyptic dramas) was probably on screen for an instant, and doesn't show the building in its iconic glory. Actually, it make the building seem fat and boring.

I'm more offended films that are set in Boston but shot in Toronto or Vancouver.

Maybe it was that same coked-up Emerson alum that decided to obliterate Boston in War of the Worlds.

^The first shot is bad because I am pretty sure there is no roadway like that, with 2 roads, 2 lanes each, and a "Welcome to Boston" sign....that always bothered me in this movie. I wish they had just shown like I93 or 128 or something, not the crap they made up. The second photo however is pretty good, everything seems to be in the right area.
 
I was catching up with Frisky Dingo tonight and you can see both Hancock buildings in the background city.
 
The first shot vaguely evokes Route 2 as you crest the Belmont hill ... but of course there is no "Welcome to Boston" sign anywhere near there.

Anyone notice a problem with this? The real Hancock Tower's sides are each parallel to their opposite side, the left side of the building in this Jericho shot runs out at an angle in one direction and the right side goes another direction. It's a nitpick, and I understand it's just entertainment (the logo on the front isn't there in RL anyway, etc, etc) but it's a funny doctoring. It's clearly intented to mimic the Hancock tower, it's just funny that they would mess with the angles of the building like this.
 
It was probably done because the actual image of the JHT may be copywritten. I know this was the case when they built that NY,NY casino in vegas, they had to make buildings that only kinda looked like the actual ones. I don't know if this really is the case here but it is an idea.
 
^That's probably right. The second photo is probably fine because it's undoctored and in the building's actual context... simply put, it's an uneditied shot but taken from a public place, while the doctored photo with the alternative logo and Vegas' New York, New York Casino is really out of the real building(s') context.
 
The first shot is taken from what appears to be American Legion Highway in Dorchester.
