A couple of years ago I made a map of the June 1, 2011 tornado with location markers for videos of the tornado. I made the map back in 2018, so a few of the videos might be unavailable now. I originally made this map because so many videos of the 2011 tornado would make me think "I wonder where exactly this was filmed", so I decided to pinpoint the filming locations and compile them onto a map.

Needless to say, there are a lot of videos of the tornado:

I'm still bitter about the tornado destroying these buildings on Main Street in the South End:

And I'm especially bitter about the replacement being a one-story CVS instead of a multistory mixed-use development:

A friend of mine taught at a school in Springfield that the tornado destroyed. The school never re-opened, and the students were permanently relocated to facilities not meant to host additional population. It's still quite astonishing that something like that happened here, where tornadoes are not part of the usual weather patterns.

You can still see a faint scar along the path in Google maps satellite view. I recall going to the original Treehouse in Monson driving through thick forest and all of a sudden I was in a moonscape. Then it occurred to me it was from the tornado and I was amazed at the destruction. And that was a small one by Midwest standards.
