And here's the press release. (with rates starting at $49 each way ISP to BOS)

From Boston Logan International Airport (BOS):

Norfolk, VA (ORF)April 30, 20251x daily, summer seasonal
Islip, New York (ISP)April 30, 20251x daily, summer seasonal
Madrid, Spain (MAD)*+May 22, 20251x daily, summer seasonal
Edinburgh, Scotland (EDI)+May 22, 20251x daily, summer seasonal
Traverse City, MI (TVC)June 5, 20253x weekly, summer seasonal
Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada (YHZ)June 26, 20251x daily, summer seasonal

Islip is an ... Interesting choice.
Jetblue started running 3 routes out of there to Florida (FLL/MCO/PBI) a couple months back. Supposedly those have done much better than expected. I recognize BOS is a very different destination/market, but I guess they're seeing some opportunity there.

Will be keeping my eye on the Traverse City route. Looks like a beautiful region, and close access to the UP! It'll also be nice to have another option aside from the 1x daily Air Canada flight to Halifax.

Both American Airlines and Delta Airlines already serve Traverse City non-stop from Boston, albeit on a seasonal basis. This route is targeted at leisure traffic from northern Michigan coming to Boston and New England and also the other way too.

Did not know that! Good to know, thanks.

Today, JetBlue announced it was discontinuing services between Boston and New York-LaGuardia, effective April 30. Higher airport fees are making it impossible to offer low fares on the route. JetBlue stated its fees at LGA are now about $50 a passenger.

On this route it is not being able to offer low fares as the reason, it was their struggle to get high walkup fares. Another win for Delta.

Frontier is adding non-stop service to Cleveland. Beginning May 22, 2025, 3 weekly service using A320neo equipment.

Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday will be the operating days.

That would be very interesting if it actually came to fruition. I think it's a safe assumption that in the next 2-3 years, we're going to see some consolidation in the airline industry. Especially with a new administration. I think the deal that would make the most sense would be Alaska and JetBlue. JetBlue must still be kicking themselves for getting outbid for Virgin America years ago.

Alaska just bought Hawaiian, and that transaction went through without challenge, but I agree they're probably the only major carrier that would pass antitrust normally, given their not-hugely overlapping route networks - Jetblue still has a hugely east coast centric network. With Hawaiian's pacific reach, the Atlantic would also be attractive to them.

That said, I'm not sure they have the appetite or bandwidth right now to also acquire Jetblue - that would in all probability be a much bigger lift for them, but their balance sheet looks healthy enough at a glance.

Damn, I would hate this if Jet Blue was swallowed up by SW!

A few weeks ago it was United... I think Southwest is too busy dealing with their own internal changes and boardroom drama to buy JetBlue.

Somewhat unrelated: I do think that Southwest is in a position to rebuild in BOS. I suspect the new product will be more appealing to infrequent WN customers and their ability to offer red-eyes finally could mean that routes like LAS, OAK, or PHX might work. Could also see them entering some markets that JetBlue as exited like MCI.

Would love to see a return to Summer 2017 levels. They served more destinations than United back then!!!

Baltimore
Chicago Midway
Denver
St. Louis
Nashville
Austin
Indianapolis
Dallas Love
Houston Hobby
Atlanta
Columbus
Kansas City
Milwaukee

They also served Philly and Phoenix back in early 2010's.

I always liked the Manchester NH Florida flights to be honest.

My tinfoil tells me that the proximity of the various rumors involving JetBlue indicates that the source is an investor with a large position in JetBlue. They’re too small to be Too Big To Fail, and too big be easily digested.
