When the wiki was first started someone wanted to have a map or satellite image of Boston with links to all the development projects. I think http://www.google.com/apis/maps would allow us to do that. I tried messing around with it but I couldn't get the map to show up on the wiki. Maybe someone who knows more about this kind of stuff can figure it out.

I've taken a first crack at this idea as a proof of concept. I have linked my "New Developments in Google Maps" page to the top of the "Under Construction" page.

I encourage anyone who is interested to further develop this page.

i haven't been on the board for a while so I'm just seeing this now. Its awesome. I wonder if we could incorporate it in the new achboston site?

Bowesst, yeah, its possible. Its just a question of how it would be implemented. Have any ideas?

If possible there could be a "Developments" link on the main page that would bring you to the google development map. Then we could have the links on the google maps bring you to either an in depth page or the forum discussion page or both. It would be pretty much like what we have on the wiki now but it would be more consolidated. I guess its just a question of how difficult it would be to bring all that info over to the new site.

If nothing else it would be cool just to have the developments mapped out on goolgle with links to the discussions for each building.

Personally, I prefer just having them link to the forum pages.

I think that would be fine but if the links went only to the forums it would be nice if the first post of each development thread contained the general info about the building (much like the wiki pages do now). That way you wouldn't have to look through the entire thread to get the basic info and see a rendering.

That is actually a really great idea. I hate having to dig through 10 pages to find an article that might not even be in a thread.

Check out what I whipped up for the Columbus Center thread:
http://architecturalboston.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=183

The downside is that other people can't add to it, but if most people are only looking in the forums anyway then it will at least help them

That looks really good. Just doing that would reduce redundancy and extra work.

vanshnookenraggen, was your name philip back then?

No, I'm a moderator so I can edit posts. Phillips original post is still there, it is the project description.

Yes but that alone took a few hours of work.
Well, you better get cracking!

With great power comes great responsibility.

:p

/\/\ Wow, there is a LOT more construction going on in Boston than I thought!
