DeLeo on his way out? If so he'd be breaking the tradition of MA House Speakers leaving office due to federal indictment.

If he does decide to head to academia (and what I'm sure is a big-ass windfall from NU), there will be a leadership fight. His anointed successor Ron Mariano is even more conservative and opaque than DeLeo and he'll get fairly strong challenge from the progressive House wing that's fed up with the old-school politiking of Beacon Hill. Reps Provost and Hecht wrote an op-ed in Commonwealth going after Mariano and an alleged scheme to install him before the new year, so it's heating up in the House.

Fed up? They've already fallen in line behind him. He has the votes. Check your spines at the door for the General Court.

The only good thing about the latest new-boss-same-as-the-old-boss is that at 74 Mariano isn't in for a long reign at this. He's got a couple terms at most to mold a younger Mini-Me heir apparent.

He's the transitional "Old Pope" while the Beacon Hill Vatican grooms its next "Young Pope."

Also: LOL what a hilarious gerrymander 3rd Norfolk is! Spitting image of Elbridge Gerry's original serpent creation. What a fucking farce of a fake Legislature we have!

It's official. And Mariano is of course running unopposed, so the sheep have already done their best folding chair impression for the Annointed One.

So, in other words, don't expect anything mind-breaking from the Great and General Court anytime soon.
