MBTA Construction Projects

Progress, indeed. I was thinking about it, and the core of Kendall near the head houses has been under constant construction of one form or another since early/mid-2017 if I'm not mistaken. The Google and MIT buildings, both headhouses, etc. By summer this whole section will finally be complete (ignoring 200 Main...). Street view shows the original Cambridge Trust 1-story bank building intact in September 2016 and demolished by October 2017. Quite the sprint for the area!
When I first visited Boston in 1986, I remember Kendall was a complete mess and under construction. I think they were lengthening the platform, and that's when they also installed the acoustic artwork. I remember single light bulbs hanging from the ceiling over the platform. It had a very "London Underground" look to it. :)

The Kendal outbound side is still progressing but the inbound side looks great! The lighting is a nice touch of urban flair.

Imagine how much of that disappointment would disappear if they fixed the Kendall Band, that's what they would remember.
Plus amending the placards on the wall to show handy info about major MIT innovations/accomplishments made within the average commuter's lifetime. Right now it stops at 1987.

More negative scanning.

Kendall Square - the original courtyard configuration on the Main st side of the hotel. All pavers - no 'grassy knoll' yet. (On the right is the soon-to-be Co-op, which is also now gone). Circa 1987-ish.

Why this group? Main st (just above the squares) is in the final stages of being rebuilt after being torn up to build the platform extensions enabling Kendall to handle 6 car trains. On the right we see the brand new Kendall Northbound staircase, with the headhouse not quite built yet. (The Northbound headhouse is now in the process of being rebuilt)

The T apparently posted, and then immediately retracted, an opening date for the Wellesley Square mini-highs...
