Midtown Hotel Redevelopment | 220 Huntington Avenue | Back Bay

In the meantime...enjoy yourselves some midcentury lowrise design.
As previously stated, I like the building and very much like that there's a central location for visiting friends of mine that's actually affordable and keeps more than 6 people from trying to crash in my tiny somerville condo.

It also gives 1 Cumberland a reprieve. Isn't it strange that they wrapped this hotel around a single townhouse? I think it is architecturally significant and it should be moved. The city has Community Preservation funds and plenty of 2000 sq ft vacant lots

Wait until you see St Botolph Street itself. I’m sure it was probably a necessary concession at the time but this is a totally mundane building not worth preserving at the expense of 30 housing units, never mind 300+.

I don't understand. At the expense of what 30 units? I am just suggesting that the city might remove a rowhouse that is in the way and fill in a gap somewhere else. If they have free land and the developer wants it gone, then maybe it might work and actually create 3 units in a quality of building that you could not possibly construct today

Also, I think that if this development had to fail then at least they have a functioning hotel instead of a hole in the ground. I should have been clearer on that

I suppose if that was ever still possible in this day and age it would be here where the land is owned by a non-profit/church, and thus they could decide that is in their best interests. I'd think, however, even here the best that could be hoped for is pseudo breaks in the facade to simulate different buildings in the mega-block akin to Assembly Square and other developments, unfortunately.

And here I was thinking they’d want those to be labs since they’re Christian Scientists and all……….:)
