MIT New 450-bed Residence Hall | 121 Vassar St. | Cambridge

Funky, interesting, and (to my eye) aesthetically pleasing. Love it, and wish we saw more creativity like this throughout Boston.

I've never seen this in person, only in photos here....and lo and behold! It's faced with brick panels! Up until now all I saw were flat surfaces. Up close this is a very engaging building, and from a distance, seems to fit right into its immediate surroundings, front and back. The overall massing, spare details on the windows, and the contrasting colors do indeed make for a Baker House rival of sorts.

Back in August, BeeLine posted this pic of one of the awnings (love the awnings). Is there any meaning to the cutouts, this is MIT after all. There has to be some meaning or pattern here other than my seeing rabbits, ducks, and seahorses! lol

Any plans for the lot thats about the same size down the street next to the other dorm? Itll be nice once this stretch is filled in.

Wow! I didn’t really appreciate this bldg until visiting up close. Impeccable detailing. Brick facades usually aren’t so smooth/even/flat. Also, it seems to effectively deal with the fact that the building is stretched very far along the sidewalk/corridor …
