MIT SoMa Building 2 | 200 Main Street | Kendall Square

Some work being on on the giant hanging signature today. Really gives you a scale of how large it is. 12.21.22

Wait... did the Eastgate Tower not have any basement floors? That's pretty wild for a tower... it was just a pad?

Definitely not just a pad; this slurry work on this site is actually fairly recent, they spent the prior several months drilling out all the old piles from the tower.

EDIT: the courbanize construction updates site (see "site 2" updates therein) actually has a pretty good history of all the site prep that's been going on at the Eastgate location:

Note the many weeks where it discusses pile removal activity. E.g., "A caisson rig is on site to extract existing underground piles. This activity will create noise and some intermittent vibrations"

Looks like scaffolding went up on the old building November 2021, so it’s been 2 and a half years to have the new core finally break the street level. Wow, tons of site work on this one. Thanks for the updates.
