neat urban planning stuff

Does garbage collection count as an aspect of urban planning? This little article in The New Yorker about a pneumatic garbage-collection system was kind of interesting. It's about a garbage disposal system on Roosevelt Island in which "a complex system of air valves propels the garbage through the pipe at speeds of up to sixty miles per hour." I hadn't heard of this before, but apparently several cities have this sort of system per this site.

I would say that it does count. Thanks for the link!
