A little off subject also: There is supposed to be a major expansion going on at Eastern Maine Med.

I have a few phone photos I took in September; I happened to be in Bangor when they had the Open House.

I love these, as it looks to me like they were deliberately designed to resemble clock weights.

The design for a new Residence Inn by Marriott has been unveiled by Ocean Properties. This will be built across the street (entrance) from the new Cross Insurance Center. It will be the newest addition to Bangor's growing "entertainment district" which includes the aforementioned Cross Center, Hollywood Hotel & Casino, and Darlings (Waterfront) Concert Pavilion which all sit between I-395 and Downtown Bangor. There's also rumors that another hotel could eventually join this group on the site of the current Bangor Daily News building which sits on the opposite side of the Cross Center.

Personally, I think that Bass Park is completely underutilized as Bangor Raceway draws flies for a handful of harness racing dates.......and the glorified carnival known as the Bangor State Fair is still in operation (unfortunately). I know that there are questions about how this property can by utilized as it was intended to be "public property" bestowed on the city by the Bass family(?). But everything changes and if the City of Bangor can attract more development (think Bass Pro Shops/IMAX/Dave & Busters/etc)........that might actually benefit taxpayers and the public more than the grandstand, barns, and parking lots that sit empty and idle 300+ days per year.

So back to the hotel.........some renderings of the design and site plan:

I like the design very much and it will be a great addition to the Queen City's downtown hotel options.

I agree.......I was pleasantly surprised by the design. Hopefully, the real thing will look very close to what they have shown us.
