NEW BANGOR, ME ARENA

Pretty fancy looking. I have my doubts about this ever being built but they really could use a replacement for the current bangor auditorium.

Portland needs to allow a casino on Riverton Trolley Park like the old days and we will start making money too.

You know how much this angers me, seeing Bangor ready to build one and not us.

Word from my secret source is that there might be an arena as part of the new Westbrook Stroudwater project.

^Bangor BADLY needs one. Badly. the one they have now is a dump.. hardly functional. Portland's isn't terrible, just nothing special... it could serve its purpose for at least another decade or so.

The idea that an arena would be part of Stroudwater makes me dislike that proposal even more. I think the idea for that is about 50 steps in the wrong direction and to take business generated by the arena outside of the city is a BAD idea. Few projects have made me angrier than Stroudwater... even worse, is many members of the community think it's a good idea.

I agree completely! Part of the charm of many Maine cities is the downtown shopping districts and Stroudwater will just take more of that business away

Sorry to get off topic though...arena looks great!

If Portland can't get it done (which they they have proved that they can't) than I am all for an arena conveniently located off the Turnpike in Westbrook. I assume it would be privately financed. I just want a new state of the art arena somewhere in the Greater Portland area.

^Why? I'm not trying to argue, but why? I understand that the civic center isn't state-of-the-art anymore, but it's not bad. It's large enough to support the population (many events don't sell out-- particularly sporting ones), and it's centrally located. Do you know how many downtown restaurants and businesses thrive off of arena traffic? I think it's too early to get desperate enough to take an arena away from the city center.

I'm willing to be if it were built in Westbrook, it would be built privately with some sort of incentive based deal from Westbrook.
