New infrastructure bill

$2.5 billion public transportation

That could get us a couple obvious shovel ready projects and then some:
  • Red Line–Blue Line connector ($0.85 billion)
  • Blue Hill Ave BRT ($0.03 billion)
What would you prioritize for the other ~$1.62 billion (minus some for RTAs of course)?

Probably the biggest bang would be the Orange Line to Roslindale (or all the way to Westie), and/or anything you can through at electrification of the CR and move to Regional Rail.

Guessing a good chunk will go into SOGR. It needs it.

For the money it would take to add OL to Rozzie S q you can sub OL to WRox, but you also need to do GLX2

The only way we'll see any real money is when Boston is eventually flooded with a Hurricane Sandy-level event and we get to be declared a disaster area.
We only do rescue money or bailouts in the US. No planning. Planning is for socialist pinko-commies who do book learnin'. Think they're so smart.

Oh AAAAND... we act like we got hit harder than we did --- like in one of those Russian dashcam videos where someone jumps up on the hood. Fraud and grift... if 40 years of watching idiot politics have shown me anything. We are a nation of idiot scofflaws led by fanatics and morons.

If the driver wants to settle out of court, I'll take electrified regional rail and NSRL.
AAAWWWWW MY NECK. AAAAHHHHH IT HURTS.

3100ft of TBM
1100ft of C&C(futureproofing toNubian)
One C&C station
Unless you also do E Line to SS
(They really should provide for this when they tear down the BB garage)

I'm curious, where're are these numbers from?

Everyone just ignored the article with MA state officials on record saying theyre planning to use the infrastructure bill funds to build the pike realignment project in Allston. Thats not small potatoes, its a massive project. For the ppl saying that we should be getting a big project out of it, I would argue that is a big project.

Having Stephanie Pollack as deputy head of the Federal Highway Adm. increases the likelihood that Allston might see some monies from the megaproject pot. I doubt all of Allston will get funded from the megaproject pot, but a significant part of it might.

The spending plan for the concept estimates the cost of tunnel construction at $270 million, or nearly $114,000 per foot. The cost of a new Blue Line station was estimated at $60 million and the reconstruction of Cambridge Street at $20 million. The spending plan includes $140 million for contingencies, $50 million for additional design work, $130 million for inflation, and $130 million for other measures.

Talk about lard in a cost estimate.

Comparative construction cost estimates for various tunnels in this report

If you are asking why that much of each type of tunneling, its because TBMs are not that good at branches and if GL to Nubian is ever to happen...

I am assuming using the pleasant st portal and going Marginal to Hudson

Thanks, I had been looking at the measurements on Google Maps via Essex and getting a completely different number. (Not that it'd be fun to try and send a TBM down Essex, I was just confused because I didn't equate the Marginal/Hudson route with TBMs, though now I think I need to re-read the Green Line Reconfiguration thread to see if that was suggested as C&C or bored.)

When contractors know what you expect to spend, that's what they will make it cost.

That's not how low-bid contracting works. You put the contractor at risk and see what they can do for you. If they want to win, they'll come in as low as they can. If they can't do it in your budget, they'll tell you. If no one can, your budget doesn't include enough contingency.

FWIW, the MBTA gets this now. GLX is underbudget.

I am reminded of Rodney Dangerfield in Econ 101 in BACK TO SCHOOL

Ive shared this before but the best bang for your buck has been studied in the comprehensive planning advisory committee and ends up being green to needham. So depending on how much money we can get we have some data to show that we have a few low cost options with a lot of benefit.

Except I am pretty sure the bridge over 128 will cost nearly $60M alone. Probably another $25M for a 2nd span across the Charles.
