Odd Ball Bus Routes

Bus #99: Why does it still run through the Middlesex Fells to a hospital that closed over a decade ago?

Those midday-only buses are often called "community buses" and are intended primarily to provide access for senior citizens.

I'd think more than just seniors would want to visit the Chelsea Market Basket.

There are still doctors offices, for check ups and minor stuff. They just no longer have an emergency room or any surgery (no major surgery anyway).

I'm curious about the #51 bus's 2 (?) morning trips to Union Square in Allston...

The deranged 66 bus that goes to Brighton Center.

Even crazier? It's always packed.

Those are also school trips, according to the printed (pdf) schedule. Look for the 's' notation.

MBTA bus 29 - Jackson Square <-> Mattapan. Odd-ball features:

- some weekday trips, mostly mid-day, divert into the Franklin Field apartment complex
- an almost 2-hour gap in service after about 6:30 pm weekdays
- runs only after 8:10 pm on Saturdays; no daytime service
- trips after 8:10 pm continue beyond Jackson Square to Ruggles

The 29 pretty much parallels the 22, except one goes to Ashmont and one to Mattapan.
