Portland International Jetport | PWM

Great shot TC and a perfect idea for its placement but photoshopping The Casco into the photo would void the circle of trust with Paul and the millions of visitors to the airport! :) Details like the obsolete Peoples United Bank signage on the Fidelity Building, 511 Congress Street signage has been removed, no Bank of America signage on One Monument Square, pre Cross Arena renovations and the exterior of the Holiday Inn has not been toned down yet which makes this view at least 12 years old. I can be a stickler for details but when you super size a photo and mount it in a high traffic area the out of date items become even more noticeable. And sure, a majority of the public from away would not even notice the differences but if you are going to present the concept to Mr Bradbury it should be current in my opinion. Maine Imaging does have some excellent aerials of the skyline but unfortunately nothing that includes Portland Headlight and Mt Washington that is recent. Happy to help in the future even though Paul has mentioned that he has limited input due to Clear Channel's contract with PWM which does not expire until 2028.

I was thinking the glass was 99% full here.

I think the photo is a great idea, if possible. Covers all the bases. Or update the Back Cove photo in Baggage Claim (but have not been to the Jetport since last fall). I did see a more recent photo. It looks from last fall...

I strongly advise everyone not to click the links in the post from Arturopop.

Even better. Not putting this in the Jetport for arriving passengers to see is another example of underperformance. Just make it happen. Be aggressive.

"New" Gate 11 jetway (two guys in vests) has been connected to its own passenger boarding connector and the "old" Gate 11 jetway (still numbered) will be removed from the apron this weekend.

Gate 11 with new blue numbers awaiting to be installed on the ground to the left.

Nice to see the new jetways have self-contained air handling vs the old compressors on wheels. At some point all the jetways will have them!!!...this is a plus and it will be great to see planes close to the Hilton.. get your cameras ready!! boy the snowbirds are going to be surprised when gate 11 has a regular jetway instead of the embarrassing retro fitted job.... no more umbrellas!!!

All those saddened to see that balsa-and-plastic tunnel being retired, please seek medical attention.

The new carpet throughout, expanded boarding area, SARA, new seating and restrooms will give passengers an improved first impression of PWM when arriving from the Gate 7-14 portion of the concourse.

Still need that big wow image of the skyline to complete that first impression. Amazing that Clear Channel can rule on whatever local P.R. and good feels (and art) you can put on your walls. I'm guessing that they don't own the Jetport. If so de facto, who did that deal?

Given that Maine doesn't have billboards, I'm guessing that the Jetport is pulling in some sweet cash from Clearchannel for that space.

I agree with you 100% TC and here is what I know. I have been complaining about the outdated "Welcome to Portland" skyline photo to Paul for years and he is onboard with new ones once the baggage claim expansion commences. Seeing that a 4th carousel will be eventually added there will probably be space for multiple photos. These changes/additions take time and having Clear Channel involved with PWM's marketing and advertising as they are with many airports across the country can add extra steps to the process. Paul and the city's corporation counsel were surely involved with the contract negotiations several years ago and overall I think the venture has been an improvement and signage looks more professional than it used to.

We don't win them all as I remember trying to convince Paul that the slogan for the jetport should be "The Gateway to Vacationland" and it and ideas from others lost out to "Maine's Hometown Airport" which I am tepid with. My advice is for you to formulate your photo and location plans and send them to Mr Bradbury via e-mail, he is very responsive and encourages feedback from the traveling public and followers of PWM. Having the skyline shot at the entrance to baggage claim from above is your best idea and would be a great replacement for the black and white image that is there now and may not have to wait for the expansion. And don't forget, you are still the most interesting individual in the world and this is an opportunity to utilize your abilities to influence positive change! :)

March Passenger counts have been released. March 2019 still holds the record, but not too much.. 8K more than March 2025. For the year so far, we are doing better than last year's record total, but 2019 still has the best total with 408K, 17K more than 2025 of 390K

I'm flying in next month so will look at and take pics of the walls. I think I'm qualified. I found and hired and managed the below project at the East 34th Street Heliport in Manhattan. The champagne bottle to the far left has UV paint accents and glows at night (black light effect). They can see it from the space station. When the brand's deal expired, the ad broker couldn't believe that this ad looked so pristine after 3 winters. As you can see, the surrounding areas of the tarmac are weathered and chipped. You want quality and permanence? I've got the guy. He airbrushed the entire ad and used sealants, etc. Some of which he has patents on. He can use his high quality printer this time.

The illuminated advertising sign should not have been placed over the "Welcome to Portland" skyline photo in my opinion and was a poor decision by Clear Channel. Good luck TC!

Forget it. A company that can do that is of no interest to me.

I personally think the "Welcome to Portland" should be redone. The current version looks outdated. The black-and-white doesn't really blend with the rest of the area. Plus, our skyline has changed since that photo was taken!

I think it would look great as a colorful painting of the skyline with "Welcome to Portland" in a stylized font.
