Portland International Jetport | PWM

Jetport-PTC connection? Hovercraft. Build a dedicated boat ramp at Thompson's Point and an access road from the river to the old NWS radar site, plus some dedicated driving area on the Jetport side (or a law change) because you can't operate a hovercraft on public roads. Normally I would suggest a duck boat but the mud flats are too shallow so that wouldn't work at low tide.
Incidentally, I had a nice conversation with Google AI about my hovercraft idea, and it felt that the main issues would be the noise affecting the neighbors (although, having lived in the Terrace, there's already plenty of noise from the planes themselves) and the hovercraft's effect on the environmentally-sensitive mud flats.

Busy at PWM today...Santa Fe 1

Though peak season at PWM does not start for a few more weeks, there are 50 scheduled flights today with 30 showing mainline. Delta and Sun Country have both restarted MSP service with Delta also back to 3X daily to ATL.

Question. When does PWM overtake Bradley for the number 2 spot in New England? Surely Hartford/Springfield can't be seeing much of an increase in tourism, yes? And population growth percent?

Never. The Hartford and Springfield CSA's have a combined population of around 3.4 million and Portland's CSA population is around 700K. In addition, Bradley is perfectly located between the two cities and even though it is not known as a vacation destination it would be impossible to make up for the massive difference between the two cachement areas. BTV (#123) has already passed MHT (#124) for the 6th busiest airport in New England with HVN (#121) sliding into the 5th position according to CY 2025 enplanement numbers.

TC, tried to respond to your message but replies have been closed for some odd reason? I love your idea and think the photo would be perfect. Discussed it with Paul awhile ago and he told me that it would be best to hold off until the dust settles with the upcoming improvements to baggage claim and the replacement of all of the restaurants. You should email him all of your suggestions along with the photo and I know he will take the time to respond which will at least get your foot in the door for future additions. Best. :)

Las Vegas has less than half the population of the Boston area with more than 10 million more in passenger counts. It's also, like Portland not a hub or connecting flight city. We've seen how tourism and other visitor traffic can provide a big boost to an airport (Orlando too). The Portland area will probably get close to a million in metro by 2030, and I don't see tourism slowing down. Jetport car rentals are on pace to break another record this summer. People want to visit and maybe even scout to see about moving here. And you should see all the activity up at Bar Harbor. That population will double soon, and the tourism? Out of control, almost. All good!
