Portland International Jetport | PWM

The jetport website is behind on updating Avelo into the departures and arrivals
That explains it, thanks. As far as I know, the jetways at Gates 3-7 are supposed to be replaced this summer and fall so maybe that is what is causing some of the current airline shifting.

American really seems to be loaded up again with the mainline frequency. United is the opposite, mostly regional jets that are packed full. Very similar to last summer but I feel like American is offering slightly more seats than last summer after a quick glance. Wasn’t Denver the most successful United route all around from PWM? I wonder why we haven’t seen larger aircraft from them, especially to Denver.
A dream would be for DEN to go year round, they add SFO and FLL and maybe even help fund a revamp of gates 1a-3!

I can't remember the last time I used a gate that far down. Are all of 1a, b and 2 actually on the lower level and "walk out on the tarmac" gates like they (and 11 & 12) used to be, or do they have jetways now?

Regardless, I would think those would be the ones used to feed into the FIS facility once it happens.

Gates 1A & B are ground level (not counting the downward slope from the terminal) and were designed for regional jets. They will eventually be replaced with one or two full service jetways and hopefully the dead space area with the vertical windows will be filled in to provide more seating and restrooms. Gate 2 is an elevated full service jetway and was actually the newest until 11,12 and 14 were recently added. I think Gate 5 is targeted to be the FIS feeder seeing that the space underneath it is the planned location of the customs facility.

United has been hit harder than AA and DL by Boeing delays and certifications for the MAX-10. The A319/320 aircraft that they inherited from Continental are at the end of their working lives but UA isn't getting replacement birds quick enough and most of their new A321-NEO's are being deployed to "premium-heavy" routes like BOS-SFO/LAX

I would expect UA to make DEN year-round at some point. Network-wide they've been trying to shift east-west connecting traffic away from ORD to DEN and PWM has been a high performing route.

Side note: It will be interesting to see if this new United / JetBlue partnership will have any impact on service at PWM. Too early to say at this point

Here is a clip of July 14th United Departures:
PWM-DEN 737-800
PWM-ORD 737-700, 737-900, E-170
PWM-IAD E-175, E170, E175, E175
PWM-EWR 737-900, E-175, E170, E-175
PWM-IAH Saturday only E-175 this one is a real head scratcher...

I was going to suggest (from personal experience) using this to get to cruises out of Galveston but the times are wrong (the plane travels IAH-PWM-IAH so it gets there too late for a Saturday cruise and leaves IAH too early on disembarkation day. (Note to the wise: don't fly in on the day your cruise leaves. It's way too hectic and too many things can go wrong.)

Thanks. The one thing that makes me wonder about using Gate 5 is that it's in the middle of the concourse, so sealing arrivees off from the rest of the pax could be more involved. If they could use Gate 1A and B, I could see them having a single jetway that connects to both gates with a switchable wall inside, so that departing passengers would board using current Gate 1B (renamed Gate 1 for public facing purposes), but on arrival that movable wall would be switched so incoming pax would come in through the current Gate 1A door, which now would lead directly to the elevator & stairs/repurposed former up escalator to the FIS stations.

Gates 5 and 6 will serve as international gates and there will be a moveable glazed partition that would be closed for arrivals. PWMFlyer, any renderings of the actual FIS facility underneath Gates 5 and 6?

Now I know things have to work hand in hand,
Renovate the old restaurant and move the Jetport's offices to the area.
With the vacant space, renovate old office space into food/restrooms/lounge which is across gates 5 and 6.
The FIS will take waiting area space for the secure corridor between 5 and 6 depending on the width of the corridor. Will the old escalator and stairs on level 1 will go away when the offices are gone? according to this diagram, they are still there?

I think the stairs and escalator remain and the abandoned jetport meeting rooms/TSA space behind the wall on the upper level of the concourse is planned for future food and lounge usage. Of course, nothing happens until the new PWM admin offices are completed which will then enable the TSA to finally move out of their space. As far as the FIS taking up hold space at Gates 5 and 6, I think it will be negligible due to the creative moving partition and it only affects inbound international flights which will probably be few and far between. The average passenger will probably not notice any difference in that portion of the concourse except for when customs agents seal the area off for an international arrival then return it back to normal once the screening is complete.

Thanks for the info, everyone (especially PWMFlyer for the explanation of how the pieces fit)!

Thanks Matt, the interior of the walkway is better than I expected and might be nicest enclosed fitness trail in the northeast!

It really is a long walk but nice that it's climate protected. Flight attendants complaining that boarding takes a while as a result but I guess no different than when we had to go outside.
Make it darker with some cool lighting and textures. Maybe it's an art experience. Turn it around as a positive. Everyone will want to walk through it.

The individuals who assist the handicapped and elderly in wheelchairs will definitely get a workout. "I conquered the Gate 14 walkathon at PWM" T shirts may be sold at the gift shops in the future!

This corridor with a fun lighting element could become Portland's version of the talked about water sculpture at LaGuardia. Airports are a great way to show off your city because you have passengers held kind of captive for a while. The Cost? Not much. Creative MECA students + cheap LED lighting =(y)
