Map is from Directflights.com. Grey dots are former destinations from PWM and I wish the map included the actual airport identifiers.

If they wanted to go crazy, they could include the former destinations from the Bar Harbor / Air New England / Business Express era.

Perhaps not great to bring up smaller planes right now, but I wonder if a business case could be made today for some level of service PWM-PQI. Or maybe PWM-BGR-PQI. Especially if EAS money were involved.

It used to work when Business Express (eventually Delta Connection) served PQI. Portland's destination map has come a long way since Delta added service to CVG in 1982 which was the first direct flight outside of NYC. Delta non stop to ATL in 2008 with the MD-88 was a also huge milestone in the airport's history. I'd love to see a small airline provide service in the summer and fall to BTV like Air Vermont did back in the early 80's.

More than 2.59 million passengers flew in and out of the Portland International Jetport in 2025, making it the busiest year in its history.
Overall traffic at the jetport surpassed the 2024 record of 2.43 million passengers. In total, nine airlines operated 27 non-stop destinations in 2025.
“Another record-setting year is in the books,” said Paul Bradbury, airport director. “We can’t emphasize enough how unusual it is for northern New England to outperform the region. It is a testament to the strength of the Portland and Maine markets that we continue to thrive in a challenging environment,” he continued.
The jetports’ service highlights in 2025 include:
  • Breeze Airways added a non-stop service to Columbus, Ohio.
  • Avelo Airlines added a twice-weekly non-stop service to New Haven, Conn.
  • United Airlines added seasonal non-stop service to Houston.
Here is the breakdown of the airline market share in 2025:

  • American Airlines: 726,443 passengers (28.01%)
  • Delta Air Lines: 584,857 passengers (22.55%)
  • United Airlines: 525,984 passengers (20.28%)
  • Southwest Airlines: 426,131 passengers (16.43%)
  • Breeze Airways: 187,107 passengers (7.22%)
  • JetBlue Airways: 90,248 passengers (3.48%)
  • Frontier Airlines: 27,997 passengers (1.08%)
  • Sun Country Airlines: 21,855 passengers (0.84%)
  • Avelo Airlines: 2,445 passengers (0.09%)

Expansion in 2025

In July 2025, the jetport cut the ribbon on a $21.6 Million, 4,200-square-foot addition, which includes three passenger boarding bridges, seven ADA-accessible, all-gender toilets, a service animal relief area, an adult changing station and ground power and so-called pre-conditioned air units.

2026 additions

In January, United Airlines announced the addition of a Saturday service during the peak summer months to both San Francisco and Los Angeles. These markets represent the first commercial flights from Maine to California.

PPH has an article on it today too. Great job, Jetport. 3 mill for 2027?

Looks like Breexe will announce Cincinnati to PWM. Not sure of frequency yet, but I'd guess a summer into fall route. Interesting that Breeze will have service both from CVG and Columbus (CHM) picking up the CVG-PWM route that Frontier tried and dropped and what United tried earlier (Both CVG & CHM).

Also, has anyone heard of news or update on the new food and beverage concessionaires agreement and when it might be announced?

Several years ago, Delta flew to CVG from PWM when it was a big hub. It was a great airport to transfer to another flight. Then Delta shrunk the hub and moved to Detroit. Currently, Breeze flies from PVD and BDL to CVG (then to SFO, SAN). Breeze could use this as an option PWM-CVG-SFO or SAN if the flights line up or a no plane change to SFO/SAN

Yes, I remember the DL CVG hub as it was a nice connection on east-west routes. I do wonder if you're on to something with the breeze-thru service for west coast connectivity.

CHM did reasonably well last year so CVG makes a lot of sense for Breeze. Frontier flew PWM-CVG at one point but had a bad schedule which brought down numbers. The A220 is the right size of plane for this kind of route.

Looks like the Breeze is also making a big push to grow at FLL. I'm optimistic that PWM will have regular service to FLL sooner rather than later with either MX or B6 (or both :) )

The route map continues to grow! I’ll experiment with creating one this week.

Now, the question is what would it take Breeze to make PWM a base?
CAK
CVG
MYR
SAV
GSP
CMH
MCO
RDU
TPA
RSW
ORF
PIT
SRQ
JAX? On Breeze Dropdown
PNS? On Breeze dropdown
15 Destinations

PVD has 20 breeze destinations

CAK, CVG, MYR, PNS and SAV are all bookable on the Breeze website.

All 2x weekly. MYR and SAV are Breeze-Thru connections while PNS is a plane-change connection

These all seem like good adds for one reason or another. I think SAV in particular will do very well and hopefully come back as a nonstop service.
