Atlantic Development to replace Crown Colony building with senior housing

1600 Crown Colony Drive

“Atlantic Development is planning to knock down a vacant office building at 1600 Crown Colony Drive in Quincy and build five 55-plus condominium buildings.

The former Harvard Pilgrim building at 1600 Crown Colony Drive would be replaced with five residential buildings. The site is the latest suburban office property eyed for housing.”

The City of Quincy has partnered with Quincy Public Schools, the Quincy Police Department, and BusPatrol to deploy school bus stop-arm camera technology across the local school bus fleet. The program focuses on preventing illegal school bus passings, a serious and ongoing safety risk for students as they board and exit buses at stops throughout the community.

The program will begin with a 30-day warning period starting June 1, 2026 to educate drivers and raise awareness of Massachusetts school bus stop laws. During this period, motorists who illegally pass a stopped school bus will receive warning notices by mail with no financial penalty. Full enforcement is scheduled to begin on July 1, 2026 following the conclusion of the warning period.

A developer is proposing a 520-unit housing project next to the North Quincy MBTA station, replacing a parking lot and two Granite Telecommunications buildings under a state zoning law.

The project will not need city zoning board approval to build due to the MBTA Communities Act.

[...]

The development at 100-150 Newport Ave [Extension]. would include 500 parking spaces, according to Hubley’s letter. Renderings show four separate multifamily buildings.

I'm all for it. Finally a parking wasteland can serve a purpose
There was a community meeting for this project last night and the developer was taken aback that the crowd was pushing for less on-site parking (either from an out-right reduction or leasing spaces in the massive underused lot across the street) and decoupling parking and housing prices. You love to see it.

Reminder that the majority of what this building is replacing was a surface parking lot. 9/10 the only thing I wish is that they incorporated the Sully's sign. Though it wouldn't go with the brick facade, which I love, so maybe for the best.

Sidebar, but I did a TOD class in grad school and used this exact site for my sample project. Took more units for me to get it to pencil out so kudos to the developers

Yea boston and its surrounding cities are doing a really good job of filling in empty lots. Makes you think what the hell took so long.
