Is this the former church site on the corner of Preble?
It is Mark and the proper name is the Resource Hub instead of center. Can a Moderator correct my thread title please? Thanks BeeLine.

This thread got me looking; I didn't realize that the former Confidential Destruction building is now a data center! Does anyone know the history on that one, and what it was originally built for? It's pretty weird, with no windows on 3 sides.

Which building is that?

340 Cumberland, that tall one across from the construction site, adjoining the garage.

Apparently, it was built for the Preble Company as a storehouse (per the 1924 tax records on MaineMemory, net).

Probably the most nondescript building in Portland with limited available history and awareness by locals on its purpose has always been a mystery to me. It was originally 5 floors with the additional 3 added later and gaining access to the structure is an exercise in futility. Back in the old days finding suitable fireproof storage space for vital records was difficult and this building served that purpose for decades until it was transformed into a data center many years ago. Exterior used to be a drab gray until the owners added a fresh coat of white paint many years ago which only slightly improved its appearance!

"The primary interconnection hub of Portland." At least it looks like it could be mysterious... the primary interconnection hub for New England is literally
the top floor of the former Jordan Marsh flagship store in downtown Boston!

I think that soon Portland will have more 4 and 5 story new residential buildings than any other city in the world!
