All the rail road ties along Rt. 28 down neat Exit 1 and Best Buy where dug up? Anyone know why. I can't find out if it is simply to take the wood, or if they are moving forward with any bike path plans.

Alright, found this... Looks like the path will be made, but not paved (which I think will result in an underutilized path. Esecially being along side Rt. 28.)

I think to get the path to be used, and also worth using, some plants, trees, and benches must be added, and the path needs tow be both paved and well marked. At least it is a start, hopefully a better trail will come in time. But for all I know, this may happen now.

Can't believe there's nothing here on Tuscan Village. https://www.tuscanvillagesalem.com/

Just had to look. The cheapest 2 bed at the apartments there is $2925 and only goes up from there. Could you even get to Burlington in 40 minutes during rush hour?
NH needs to get real about its future. The boom times of the 70's-90's are probably never coming back, as most of the cheap, easy-to-develop areas are already gone, and the whole state is obviously still very dependent on Mass for a lot of its economic activity. If cheap housing isn't a draw anymore, why is someone going to live there vs. better access to everything Mass has to offer? The only way forward is the kind of good urbanism that brings with it denser housing at scale, which means actually investing in transit/ped/bike infrastructure if they don't want traffic apocalypse, which probably means caring about how badly the MBTA is being run into the ground. The alternative is these $3k/month 2-bedrooms, >1-hour drive out from the 128 job markets, and even longer drives for Boston jobs.

I'm not saying there's no reason at all to live in NH, but the biggest draw has historically been cheaper living, and...suffice to say, the lack of that was one of the reasons I left. Combine that with other batshit motions like allowing PragerU in schools and other libertarian nonsense, I suppose the only reason you'd move there now is because you like that stuff. To which...well, again I don't live there anymore.

People are desperate enough for SFH that being cheaper in NH is good enough. For now, I guess. Even if it's not cheap.

If there wasn't a rail trail built between Methuen and Derry, this would be perfect case for TOD, as that line would spur off the Haverhill line...

For now, it'll be a bike oriented development
The problem with that is that the train would have to reverse back to get to Lawrence. At least that rail trail is getting extended south from Methuen into Lawrence.....one day.

Tuscan Village in Salem is coming along. Still a lot of area to develop, but there are some outlets, offices, restaurants, apartments, and a hotel. It is not exactly urban, but it is urban by Salem, NH standards and is very popular with the suburban family crowd —

That looks great! Looks super busy too. If I lived in NH and wasn't a COMPLETE beer snob, the option of this Salem development vs Tewksbury Treehouse (or Canton Trillium or something closer to Boston) would seem like a pretty easy choice. Intermediate developments like this with housing included are a great first step to building out gateway cities.

I wish they'd hurry up with their rail trail construction and connect it to the Methuen one at the state line. Only a couple of tough intersections to get through for it to be a decent ride.

Seeing how close this is to the Boston Express stop at exit 2 has me fantasizing about car-free travel in the area, provided that this development is a catalyst for more density in between
