Skyline & Aerial photos | Portland

Outbound flight from last week.

That is a very nice picture.....very clear and perfectly framed showing the entire skyline and waterfront......the very essence of who Portland is.

I don't know what you used for settings, but the blue of the water is amazing. It reminds me of how blue the water would be in the summer when I was at Auto Europe, torn between looking at the harbor (even with the BIW drydock) and doing actual work.

One if not both of those first two roof decks were originally anticipated to be outdoor seating for a restaurant; none ever materialized, and instead one is apparently an employee amenity and the other became the WBLM Porch.

Remember the WBLM lunchtime concerts? The Barenaked Ladies performed on the deck back when Cheryl Leeman was the "ceremonial" mayor and she gave the band a key to the city!

I also remember the Dropkick Murphys getting the key to the city and thinking it was cool until they found out Barenaked Ladies had also gotten one.

I wonder if the actual Key to the City they give out is still a bottle opener.

TC, I just noticed that your skyline photo made it to Wikipedia with credit given to Metrodogmedia? :)
Yes. Wiki pages for cites come up prominently with searches and why have something blah? I think a new aerial downtown shot at sunset would be nice, along with a new Maine Medical picture. The current one is kind of embarrassing highlighting the turn of the century (1900) structure. A drone shot could do it, but many drone operators have inferior still camera options on their drones. And I believe the glide path for the Jetport doesn't allow drones at this part of the peninsula; the operator signal is jammed. Any ideas? I'll toss in $300 for it. I'm so tired of looking at blah on the Wiki. Check out Manchester's page. Why tolerate that? Why would anyone want to visit after seeing that?

TC, see if you can get this photo of mine submitted? I could care less about receiving credit for it but it would update the Wikipedia site with a current view of the center of downtown.

Portlander, you can post things on your own but have to kind of fall in line with how the administrator of the page sees things. Otherwise, he/she will delete it. He/she wants copy and images that fall into the categories, of which are primarily historical and factual. There is a need to replace one of the current aerial photos and the Maine Medical one. In addition, for the airport section, a compelling photo of the Jetport. I also think it's time for another prominent skyline aerial with the waterfront and Old Port in the foreground (looking west), and Maine Imaging has many that fit into this idea. They even have some with snowcapped mountains in the background (Mr. Washington). But the MI guy wants $800 and full ownership. If you don't own a photo, Wikipedia will kick it out. He's based in Maine and doesn't really care about the Wiki page. He has dozens of compelling aerial photos that could be used. The Boston page also needs updating. There are none with the last eight or so towers that have gone up. And with the South Station tower topping off last week, that's many new stunning hi-rises that are not included on the page. And there is nothing of the Seaport, of which is becoming one of the most dynamic tech centers in the world. Many city pages are thus, or de facto, inaccurate. For the most part, buildings and how they are featured define a city.

A Corey Templeton classic from 11 years ago that I found in my archives. Not sure of the band but it was not the Barenaked Ladies. Corey?
