The exterior of South Bay’s newest restaurant is right across from Dave’s Hot Chicken.

“A little slice of New Haven has made its way to the Dorchester neighborhood with the opening of Sally’s Apizza in South Bay Center. The well-known 90-year-old pizzeria brand from Connecticut has filled the vacancy left by Wahlburgers at 9 District Ave, replacing burgers with coal-fired, thin-crust ‘apizza,’ Italian entrees, and craft cocktails.

“We are perfectly imperfect,” said Bret Lunsford, Sally’s executive chef and director of culinary operations. “Our pies might not always be the most round or beautifully circular because they are not punched out of a machine. Our pies are thin-crust, sauce-forward, and light on the mozz. Once you hit that coal fire, you get that char from it, all of that comes together in a way that’s very different from any other slice that I’ve had.”

For Lunsford and his team, the goal is to keep the almost century-old tradition cooking in place across the Northeast. Sally’s was founded in 1938 on Wooster Street in New Haven by Salvator “Sally” Consigilio. The chain now has locations in Stamford, Fairfield, Wethersfield, Farmington, Woburn, Mass. and, now, Dorchester.……”
