South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

I hope it is. Fingers crossed.

Having listened to the podcast itself, the project he cites as going into (5 years of) construction in the Fall includes both the bus station and the tower. He emphasizes the bus station because the moderator had mentioned South Station Expansion and he wanted to make it clear he wasn't talking about new tracks, but unless Bldup heard something else after the microphone was turned off I think they made a mistake.

So if they want to park CR trains at the west station yard, I think I remember a maint. facility going there too as part of the plans, does that replace the one in Southie?

^^Thanks: unfortunately, an incomplete article that renders no update/s for Phase 1, 2 & 3 of the key, near-term mega-project–no less huge than Winthrop Square.

South Station to get a makeover. Here's the link. Possibly to go along with the planned South Station Tower.

Actually that's an example of "Bungled Story" a specific class of "Fake News"

The ref which you gave actually quotes in part from a recent BixNow story connected with the recent public hearing

It’s time for a plan B at South Station

“PACT TO ALLOW South Station rail expansion” read the headline in the Globe, heralding an imminent move of the United States Postal Service from its Fort Point Channel property and clearing the way to add four new tracks at the busy rail terminal next door.
That was in July.
July 2000, that is.
Since then, the move of the postal service and the expansion of South Station has become a kind of running city-planning joke — it’s repeatedly said to be imminent, and yet never happens. The state reached another deal to move the postal service in 2011, and as recently as 2015 the postal service protested a Globe editorial questioning progress on the transaction.
The postal service can deliver mail to Honolulu tomorrow, but it’s time to come to terms with the obvious: This deal has been marked as undeliverable. Last month, a spokeswoman for the state’s Department of Transportation, MassDOT, said there have been “no developments” with the postal service. A USPS spokesman said “there are currently no active negotiations or talks....

I hope they stall forever. Ssx is a waste of money much better spend elsewhere and on worthwhile projects. If they do ssx theres not a chance they do nsrl either after how much itll cost...

All the studies I've seen say we need BOTH.; Surface capacity and through running capacity.

It's not SSX or NSRL -- it is BOTH.

In a perfect world we would get both, but in the real world both probably arent going to happen and nsrl gives you added capacity at ss by sending worcester, fairmount, old colony past ss opening up those platforms along with all of the other benefits in the long list. Ssx would be nice to have after nsrl if even needed, but ssx without nsrl is just even more of a shitshow and if they blow the funds on ssx nsrl will not even be a thought again till past 2040. So again, I hope the post office stays put forcing our hand do do what we should be doing anyways, nsrl. Then maybe later on if nsrl and electrification start to reach capacity we can do ssx. Thats fine. What “both” really means is that you need nsrl for ssx to make any sense, but if left to decide nsrl with no ssx is still a huge upgrade where ssx is a very slight one and not worth the money without nsrl first.

It's also irrelevant to the tower whether SSX happens, so we should keep this conversation in the Regional Rail thread.

Argh, I thought there would be an update on construction starting. I think I was in high school when this was first announced, way back in the day. I wonder if this will be completed before my kids are in high school.

Who's kidding: Central Wharf is never getting built either.
I'm embarrassed because i always knew 900,000 sq ft wouldn't fly.
If you can't do Columbus Ctr, Copley Tower or Boylston Square Air Rights
how the hell are you going to do HG

Boston's white whales
1. Winthrop Square
2. Central Wharf
3. Copley Tower
4. Columbus Ctr
5. Back Bay Station
6. Boylston Sq/1000 Boylston >600'

hey; we got 1 Dalton, MT, 9 nice highrises (West End/Downtown Back Bay) + all the 99~260' infill!
In all, 11 >400' (including Atlantic Wharf & 2 peaks in Winthrop Square) for the cycle.

Oduradina, Not every tower proposed will make it all the way to construction so fast. Theres a lot of buildings and towers that have been constructed in Boston since 2010 and you should be happy with it.

Also, Steel was ordered for this tower a while back. Im hoping for a 2020 construction start date.

Not every tower proposed will make it all the way to construction, period. That isn’t a phenomenon unique to Boston either. It happens everywhere.
