South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

I know there's too much retail in the waiting area, and that's kind of a problem.... but I miss that bookstore. Bring back that bookstore. Still, a surprising number of books on my shelf came from that little shop.

But enough nostalgia.

I'm hoping the roof is one day replaced with some glass roof. There are so many good examples of this. Just for fun, here's Moynihan Train Hall, the Portrait Gallery courtyard in DC, and the Dutch Maritime Museum.

A glass roof would be nice, but looking up at the SST’s plumber butt isn’t going to be nearly as impressive as the other examples.

The good news is the SST view is only one direction from the concourse. Looking back toward Dewey Square would be fine.

The bad news is SST would block the sunlight for much of the day.

Ahh yes, these remind us of our world class train station, North Station. How could we have forgotten that sexy beast across the aisle? Talk about world class.

I actually think looking up at SST from inside South Station would be pretty cool. Or could be. Maybe that's just me.

The shadows would block a lot of sunlight for sure. But actually, from a quick poke around, it might be better than I was thinking. I remebered BPDA released this shadow tool
There would be quite a but of direct sun at least for morning and afternoon rush hour, and for a fair chunk of the year. And even when not in direct sun light, lots of light would come in. The north-facing windows in my home still brighten up those rooms.

Good point about the timing of the direct sunlight.

In summer months that midday shadow might be beneficial. Glass roofs can add a lot to AC load in the summer months if they get a lot of direct sunlight.

Work there? Know someone who bought a place? Enquiring (nosy) minds want to know!

(nice pix, btw)

Couldn’t get a pic but the crown lighting is in a moving multicolor wave of all colors of the rainbow. Super cool effect and the dim panels close to the channel seem to have been fixed. Check it out!
Damn! Wish I'd seen that.

Has anyone else spent extensive time walking back and forth outside the new section on Atlantic? It appears they've hired private security guards to stand (no chairs) in the entrances to the car ramps basically all day and night, presumably to prevent people who hang around the station full-time from exploring inside. I figured they would install automatic rolling gates or at least give the guards a chair...

I'm a real estate agent, and there was an event to tour the residencies and amenities. I have more pictures and videos to share with the community but I don't think I can post videos here.
You can always use Youtube, Vimeo or some other video site and share the links.

Yeah, You can't upload videos....you can only link to them.

Looks like the bus terminal expansion opens on Tuesday:

You beat me to it! I'm surprised that there isn't any pomp and circumstance to go with it. It's not covered in the press anywhere. The only reason anyone knows about it is that some of the bus companies have mentioned it!

I'm looking forward to visiting it the next time I go through South Station though. While the tower is neat, this is the part of the project I've long looked forward to, even though I haven't taken an intercity bus since I was in college!
