This makes the Stamford Urban Renewal Thread look like an actual city. The only decent places are where there's still old buildings standing.

I always felt that Stamford was a pleasant mid sized New England city and I remember it's small but historically relevant downtown from occasional visits during the seventies. Once the Landmark Square office tower was completed I knew that Stamford would be changed forever. Sadly, it now reminds me of a "Tysons Corner meets the southern coast of Connecticut" from the interstate. I don't fault the city for capitalizing on it's location and luring numerous corporations out of New York but Stamford has ended up looking like a huge suburban office park with a matching identity. If only Bridgeport was a few miles closer to NYC!

Branch lines may benefit from Malloy’s transportation plan
By by Jeannette Ross on January 25, 2015
“Each of the branch lines has been through extensive studies,” Mr. Redeker said. They include Danbury, New Canaan and Waterbury.

The emphasis will be on expanded service and improved service. Although they are secondary to the main passenger line, he said the branch lines offer “extraordinary opportunities” for development and will be a “major focus” of the plan.

Budgeting will have to begin almost immediately to “build the capacity within the Department of Transportation to do the things we have to do,” Mr. Malloy said.

A stunning transformation of a historically relevant small Connecticut city since my first visit in the mid seventies. The completion of the Landmark Building was a surprising addition to the Stamford skyline back then and now it takes some effort to find it. New York City spinoff and influence has lessened some of the previous New England charm and character in my opinion..

Stamford reminds me of New England's version of White Plains which has lost some of it's identity in an over abundance of shiny corporate office towers and high rise condos. I got the feeling of being in an overbuilt suburban office park on a recent trip to the city and southwest Connecticut. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, just very different and I'd still take Stamford over Bridgeport, but not New Haven!

Its trying its best to shed its corporate city image and replace it with a live , work , play image. But I feel like it keeps missing the mark in the Transportation dept , no bike lane network , an overcrowded Bus system , Downtown roads feel like freeways , narrow suburban sidewalks... The Newer Mixed use buildings add to the density but without the Transportation upgrades the strain on the grid is starting to show. South Norwalk and New Haven are seeing similar issues....
