Impressive that's a city of 10,000 - Has the look/feel of one much larger !!View attachment 71845View attachment 71847
This city of around 10,000 residents only has 2 square miles to count them but deserves two photos to show off its density. Do not underestimate this small but important regional hub that had a US Navy ship named after it and is the birthplace of an iconic fast food menu item.
Mark, we may need another clue for this one like maybe east or west of the Mississippi? This relatively new building took the title of "tallest in the city" from another, which was surprisingly the tallest in its state when it was built.
It is a port city, east of the Mississippi.Mark, we may need another clue for this one like maybe east or west of the Mississippi?

This resilient river city once had a population of close to 70,000. Its downtown is comprised of a half of dozen mid rise buildings with the 15 story residential tower on the left being the tallest. Also has a 4000 seat historic arena that has hosted some of the biggest acts in music over the years such as KISS, AC/DC, Bon Jovi, Dolly Parton, Metallica, Kid Rock, The Beach Boys, Carpenters, Supremes, Santana, Johnny Cash, Boston, Alice Cooper, Chicago, ZZ Top, Tom Jones, Aerosmith and REO Speedwagon. The regional airport has a 7001' runway and is served by United Airlines.
I'll just say, it was not my intent to be tricksy.... The pages I saw said that the Alworth was the tallest in the state at the time it was built, without qualification. Glad you got it!View attachment 72552
Minneapolis City Hall built in 1906
You sly dog Mark! Good one the Essentia Health Center in Duluth, MN is the correct answer. What slowed my roll was the clue saying it replaced what was once the tallest building in the state which is technically correct and wrong at the same time. The Alworth Building (247') in Duluth was the tallest "commercial" building in Minnesota for four years but Minneapolis City Hall (341') was much taller and held the claim until 1929 when it lost the title to the iconic Foshay Tower.
Understood. But your cleverness came through with the "port city east of the Mississippi" clue where a novice might only focus on the gulf and east coast and totally dismiss the Great Lakes. Well played!it was not my intent to be tricksy.
Thanks; that part was indeed deliberateUnderstood. But your cleverness came through with the "port city east of the Mississippi" clue where a novice might only focus on the gulf and east coast and totally dismiss the Great Lakes. Well played!![]()
