Callahan Construction and Cathartes to Build New Thompson’s Point Residential Community in Portland, ME​

Callahan Construction Managers (Callahan), a full-service construction management company headquartered in Bridgewater, Mass. with offices in White Plains, NY, announced today that it has been selected to manage construction of the new Thompson’s Point apartment community in Portland, Maine, in partnership with the project’s developer, Cathartes. The six-story, 457,600 square foot building will add 257 residential rental units to the Libbytown neighborhood near the Fore River.
The building structure will utilize a steel-framed podium on the first floor supporting five stories of wood-frame construction extending from the second-floor slab through the roof. Building features include a fitness center, yoga room, café, game lounge, swimming pool, and outdoor spaces with views of the Fore River and Portland Jetport. A 460-spot parking garage will also be built for both residents and visitors to Thompson’s Point alike and will act as a buffer from the nearby rail system.
“We’re pleased to partner with Callahan to bring this thoughtfully designed community to life and contribute to the continued evolution of Thompson’s Point while helping meet Portland’s growing demand for housing,” said Rob Simmons, Director of Development, Cathartes.
This project is Callahan’s first in the Portland, ME market, marking its latest geographic expansion into northern New England. The company continues to secure new work in both New Hampshire and the Tri-State area, along with ongoing project activity throughout Massachusetts. Yes, it was assumed that you would know that. Their idea is probably to pay respect for the old brick structures. These sub brand niche hotels can look quite gaudy, so can't expect much. I think it will bring substantially more energy to the area. And many moms drive up to Portland for the museum. Perhaps the NY and CT ones will stay.
 
July 23rd they started accepting reservations. Thompson's Point concerts, etc. and visitors from the south headed up to the children's museum can make more than a day of it. (And people can train it up too.)

They hire one architect for one design. Whether its a Moxy in Peoria or Chattanooga or the one in Portland, Maine, it all has to look the same, like a McDonald's.
 
It's a shame Thompson's Point could not have been the home to a new arena in Portland. The main issue of course would be parking! A single point getting in and out of Thompson's Point would be a challenge.
