Tremont Steet @ Boston Common

I'd personally prefer to see Tremont and a number of other one-way traffic sewers radically narrowed rather than simply made two-way. Could the NIMBYs say no to actually expanding the Common? (yes, I know, they could, and would cite traffic, etc., but surely dangling extra greenspace in front of them would tangle their arguments in knots..)

Alternatively, there's probably enough room on some of these streets (Tremont/Stuart, linking into the E branch?) for a surface transit route that could augment/relieve the Green Line. It'd be ironic to revive the Tremont Street trolley after it was buried due to congestion, but probably useful.
 
I don't think you could plant any trees within the right-of-way of current Tremont Street, given the Green Line tunnel directly underneath.

I thought the Green Line ran under the Common in that area?
