Grayson Lofts at Wakefield Station

Developed, Constructed, and Managed by The NRP Group.
History and Existing Conditions
The building previously known as the Harvard Mills was built in 1897 as the Harvard Knitting Mills. Its owners, Charles Winship and Elizabeth Boit, created this mill to manufacture knitted underwear for men, women, and children during the World War I and World War II. In the 1980’s, the building was converted to office space.
The Harvard Mills campus is made up of 4.92+/- acres consisting of the main building (east and west wings) located at 178 and 200 Albion Street, the garage located at 12 Foundry Street, and the small parking lot/HVAC building located at 7-9 Maple Street. The east wing of the building is currently vacant and will be converted into apartments. The west wing of the building will remain as office space as it exists today.
Design
The new development will renovate the existing brick building as well as add three additional stories overtop. There will be 66 studio, 57 one-bedroom, and 61 two-bedroom apartments to create 184 units in total. Amenities within the building include leasing, commuter and club lounge areas, mail room, and fitness area. Resident amenities included within the courtyard and on the 7-9 Maple Street parcel include grilling areas, fire pit, corn hole area, dog park, and a bocce court.

Thanks for posting. I noticed this last week while randomly driving by there and was wondering if it was new.

Pretty hideous but l’m hoping all these units next to the station will be the catalyst for a couple new restaurants to go in downtown and on Albion Street. Downtown Wakefield has good bones but only has 3, maybe 4 establishments open past 8 worth going to.

Have to say, went through Wakefield on the commuter rail for the first time yesterday and that is probably one of the coolest stations with the shops directly abutting the platform. Feels very locked in time.

Groom Construction Announces Construction of the First Baptist Church of Wakefield Moving Forward

“BOSTON— Groom Construction, Co., Inc. announced that construction of the First Baptist Church of Wakefield in Wakefield, MA is moving forward on schedule.

On the evening of October 23, 2018, the First Baptist Church was struck by lightning and quickly became a devastating 7-alarm fire that destroyed the historic 148-year-old building. The church worked with LDa Architecture & Interiors to create a design for the new building and broke ground in April of 2023 with completion expected by Easter 2024.

“The new church building will not only restore the architectural void left on the Wakefield Common when the old church burnt down, but it will also help create a hub for vibrant spiritual and community activity. New church buildings are rare in New England, and we believe we have a special story of God’s will for making this project a reality” said Elaine Pappas, Building Team Chair, First Baptist Church of Wakefield..”
