Wellesley Cedar Street Bridge - Heavy Lift

The second of MassDOT's Heavy Lift Replacement bridge projects was performed where Cedar Street crosses Rt 9 in Wellesley, MA over July 4th weekend.

I shot the project of MassDOT and J.F. White and spent the entire weekend 10PM Friday until 7 AM Monday shooting the process of demolition, abutment prep, bridge move, paving and re-open.

Yes. The bridge deck which weighed 967,000 pounds (483 tons) was cast in-place in an empty clearing adjacent to the bridge from March-June. The bridge opened 10 hours ahead of schedule at Noon on July4th. They are in the final stages of clean up and final plantings this week.

In the last photo you can see the staging to the left. That is where they built the replacement deck.
