Pretty simple, I'd say. Where do we draw our biggest contributor base from would help us figure out how to grow larger.

I tell jokes where the punch line is "Philip Johnson". You tell me.

Poll is a little bit flawed; needs another category. You can be a professional architect without being licensed; in fact pretty much everyone is, for at least three years. That's how much work experience you need to sit for the exam. Wouldn't surprise me if someone on this board fit into that category.

I voted "Other" as I am an undergrad student (Int'll Business) who will be getting his Masters in City Planning. We'll see where it goes from there. Likely starting with the state (possibly fed.) government and hopefully ending up in the private sector (I've got bills to pay!).

I guess for the purposes of the poll, we just want to know how many architects by trade (whether licensed or unlicensed) we have in here. But chances are, people aren't going to scroll down to read the responses before voting, but hopefully all unlicensed architects will vote that category.

Yeah, basically that's what I was aiming for, architect by trade.

(I am in some way involved in Real Estate or Development) Owner's Representative in the Construction and Development side of things.

Re: What kind of Architecture geek are you?... A history geek.

The 3-decker in Dorchester that my great grandfather bought brand new or the mill my grandmother emigrated to is more fascinating to me than architecture per se. There are literally hundreds of existing structures in this city that would fall into that category and as the old commercial says 'it`s fun to find out'. Threads about the city's history are always popular and there is always a picture, a map or just someones recollection on this forum that furthers that goal and keeps me interested.

^This is my favorite forum for just that reason. I feel like there's a more knowledgeable community here than I've found anywhere else to date. In fact, while in most other forums and communities I happen to stumble across, I just jump right in and start posting if and feel right at home. Here, it took me literally a year before I could start posting what I felt was suitable material for this forum and even now, I still know I'm in the bottom 1/3 of the community when it comes to what I know and can contribute. However, the fact that I didn't feel comfortable enough to post didn't keep me from spending hours looking through each and every thread.

I know I'm not alone in that regard. Even now, there are probably some who are browsing but feel too uncomfortable to contribute; but that won't stop them from reading and admiring what this community offers in regards to knowledge of architecture, feelings on the current state of Boston and other cities, fascinating anecdotes, historical knowledge and trivia, etc.

I agree completely with Lrfox. At first, I hardly understood that this forum wasn't purely discussion on aesthetics. Now, I feel I've learned so much I can be a positive contribution here.

I am a business major, not n architect, but I love urban planning. i AM involved in a Boston project, but cant disclose any details yet. In 6 months or so Ill have a nice story for you all.
