Looking for a rental up to $1500 with my gf. She works and commutes to Lexington every day. I go to school and work in Boston. Living in Southie is very convenient but looking for some change now.

Malden? Arlington?

Possibly near red line and 93.

Oh and hi, I'm new to the forum ;)

Paging Mr. Keith, paging a Mr. John A. Keith.

Oh, and hi Rafal. Welcome to the forum.

If she's going to lexington she's going to want route 2. Take a look at Davis and Porter Squares.

Davis Square is infinitely superior to Porter. Don't know what the rents are, though.

Thanks! Who are they? Any help greatly appreciated!

Thought about them too, though not sure about any condo buildings...

Porter and Davis squares are a 10 minute walk from each other. If you're near either of them you can easily take advantage of what's in the other.

John A Keith is our resident real estate guru, but I don't know if he deals with the rental market, so I may have been paging in vain.

As for Malden/Somerville. Malden might be a bit cheaper, but speaking as a Malden resident, she'll probably be happier in Somerville. I can't really speak to Arlington.

I grew up in Arlington, it's nice but also quiet. Depends on how old you guys are. Arlington is dry so no bars. If you are looking for something with more going on Somerville is good, Medford has it's parts too.

Arlington is no longer dry. That's been ended in several stages over the past few years. You can now find a number of restaurants that serve alcohol, as well as package stores.

early 20's.

Arlington would work too. I'm just browsing CL and can't find anything. Any apartment complex? Close to Alewife and with a garage would be optimal ;)

How about the Blue-line.... the Wonderland stop next to Benton Brut in Revere........cheap rents but tough neighborhood.

Hi.

Thanks for the referral. I am a real estate agent but I do tend to only do sales, not rentals. The rentals game is just too unpleasant.

For neighborhoods, though, I do think South Boston is a good, "affordable" place to live. Alternatives would be Porter & Davis squares.

I think Davis is a great place to live. We lived there for 4 years between 1999-2003. It's a bit better (so, more expensive) but we were living in a one-bedroom apartment with eat-in kitchen and separate dining room and living room in a two-family home, w/ landlords upstairs, just off Davis Square, and paid $900, which went up to $950 when we told the landlords we'd pay more if they put in central a/c.

Probably more now but should be less than $1,500, maybe a lot less.

I recommend Davis Square over Arlington. You can take the subway to Davis Square. If you live in Arlington on/off Mass Ave, it involves transferring from the Red Line to a bus, and you might as well live in New Hampshire if you have to do that.

There is a small part of East Arlington within walking distance of Alewife station, which may be worth looking at. The walk is down the Minuteman Bikeway which is also a nice amenity to be near.
