The following are two pictures of Rt 1 from the 1950's.
This is now 2 lanes each way with a mere jersey barrier median:
This is now 3 lanes each way with a double guardrail + fence median:
I'm all for trains and subways over highways, but seeing as neither have been applied to this area (in fact, removed! As the Saugus Branch no longer sees trains) and the area has filled in substantially, how did we lose a lane each way and also reduce medians? What the crap?
