Re: Filene's

Does anyone have an update on the progress of the project. When the deal with Millennium Partners was announced it was stated that city officials believed that MP would file a revised plan of the project within 60 days, as of now its been 77 days.

No offense, but after the Copley Place Tower thread was resurrected this week with no new information, your post makes me want to put my fist through the computer screen. Trust me, if there was news, it would be posted here within the day. There isn't. I'm sure I'm not the only person who got excited to see this thread only to open it and be PISSED.

Re: Filene's

Looks great, but makes no mention of financing for the $615m tower. I don't know if Vornado will put up any more money if it's a passive investor and I'm not sure how big Millenium's pockets are but they'll have to find somebody to help.

Re: Filene's

Not to start any crazy gushing love affair, that I'm sure will follow.
But, from the one view.
I LIKE IT.

Re: Filene's

The height is fine.

The design is dullsville -- looks like a taller version of 33 Arch Street.

Re: Filene's

I'm actually, ambivalent on this - not sure how it will look from the wide side...

Re: Filene's

I was thinking a little of arch, but deceided it was slimmer. (sleek if you will), and not blue.

Was waiting for a better look before deciding if it was dull or not.

Actually reminded me of whomever it was who made their own massing a couple months back, with a slender tower set back from summer street.

Re: Filene's

Yeah it's standard Handel stuff - looks like the Four Seasons in San Francisco. Maybe a stretched version of that. The Filene's hole is big, but maybe not so big this would look like a whale. I think?

I'll give it points for being less fussy on the transition from the new tower to Burnham building.

I'll also take the fact the height increased as a win for size-whores. Boston rarely gets a victory in this department.

Re: Filene's

Yes, yes, yes. This thing looks great from the render(considering what normally is built in this city) in the Globe. Lets get it built now.

A side note, I walk by this site 5 days a week and can't help but wonder why they did not demolish the old Jordan Marsh building and keep the Filene's building for the Macy's.

Re: Filene's

Woooooo. If the aquarium gets 400-500 feet and gets started then the boston skyline will be full with some tall cranes with this building as well as copley tower.

Re: Filene's

While I like what little we can see of the design, I am somewhat disappointed that they aren't including a hotel component here even something small like between 50 and 100 rooms. Obviously I will wait until we see what the retail component will look like (I am hoping for something beyond typical retail stores open 10:00am-6:00pm) but I am concerned that this project isn't going to add too much in the way of desperately needed life to this area at off hours once the throngs of downtown workers vacate for the evening.

Re: Filene's

I can't tell yet whether I love it or just merely like it a lot

I like tall and slender towers. It seems to be more respectful of the original building (very similar relationship to that of the JHT and Trinity Church). But the design is so... Miami.

Fuck Miami.

Fuck LeBron.

Re: Filene's

500 units is good. assume an 2 people a unit- thats 1,000 new people in dtx, a significant jump since the last figures i saw from the city were like 6k. Add in millenium 3 and kensington (plus the recent modern) and you have an instant 25% increase in downtowns population. I hope this is one of those projects that really makes the area sustainable for development- the other building at the payless, fill in barnes and noble, and hopefully they will eventually build a counter part above the macy's.

For the sake of argument, i liked the previous one better. It integrated well with the older facade. This is two separate buildings, which im fine with. I have been staring across from cambridge trying to picture this. gonna be fun to watch it rise.

Re: Filene's

I like it; looks like it will be really sleek from the narrow ends at least.

Re: Filene's

I'm worried the base might be more blank walls of dull slabs of whatever's cheap and overused (see also: the granite slabs of the other Millenium Towers)
