The Eddy | 6 New Street | East Boston

Re: Multi-use project | 6 New Street | East Boston

Here's the original rendering?

Uh, that's quite a change, no?

Those perfectly placed humans in motion makes this look like a render.

Jouhou -- maybe they are like the fiberglass foxes designed to keep the Canada Geese at bay

Beeline -- Nice pix

Quite impressive for Eastie!

Eastie might just be on the threshold to become the "New Southie"

There's no reason why Eastie can't become a good "home town" for folks who either want to get to Core Boston via the Blue Line or Logan via foot. There should be hundreds of new units created every year based on both conversions of old factories / warehouses and new construction.

Too really Big Future Drivers for potential Easties growth:

  • Direct Silver Line service from Logan that avoids the streets of the Seaport / Innovation District -- i.e. Tunneling under D and directly connecting Silver Line Way to the ted Williams Tunnel
  • Once the Blue to Terminals connector is in place that will open up the hinterlands of Eastie where the walk to Logan is too long to make on regular basis with luggage

Buy Now for a 10 to 20 year horizon!

I just wanted to chime in about the "getting to Logan on foot" comment. I moved to Jeffries Point a couple years ago and fly out of Logan somewhat regularly (~8-12 times per year). Weather-permitting, I always walk the 15 minutes from my front door to the terminals. And with the Logan shuttles hitting up the Rental Car Center and Airport MBTA station, it's especially convenient for Eastie residents to "walk" to the airport. My dad and I talked about it when I first moved there and could hardly think of another neighborhood so neatly connected to a major airport... Except maybe Reagan National... and soon LaGuardia.

I spoke with an agent for New Street -

Touring should begin mid-July with first move-ins late September to Early October.

A one bedroom will start around $2700, 2 bedrooms around $3200.

There is a banner on the building that says "enjoyliving.com" but the site is empty as of today.

The site for this project is up and it has been named "The Eddy" (barf). Wcvb had a feature about this project a few months ago and it mentioned how they included affordable housing. The views on this property look breathtaking.

Studios start at just over 1800 a month.

Yikes... The smallest studio is under 400sqft. On the other end a 2-bed 2-bath 925sqft starts at $4325/mo. That seems quite pricy for East Boston, waterfront or not.

Agree with the name.. Couldn't have picked a worse name!

Not sure how everybody else feels about this but I think this came out very good. Great color, great location, street level seems like it will be pretty engaging. East Boston is one of my favorite neighborhoods because its extremely close to downtown but still separated from thru traffic making it pretty quiet. It feels like its a separate community with nobody really passing through. Hopefully this is one of many more great projects to bring this area up to its potential.

I think you're forgetting the international airport that sits in East Boston. But yes the Jefferies point area is absent of airplane noise and ripe for development.

The traffic mostly goes straight through to the airport. Away from the pike or rt 1 you get minimal cross traffic through the neighborhood streets other than meridian. Its still the city but there is much less out of towner pass throughs than most neighborhoods. Before I had visited the neighborhood I had been to Eastie to catch a plane but never really wandered off the main routes which is what you see here a lot. Compare this to Dorchester where I live and theres dozens of roads that connect to multiple different neighborhoods and you get a lot of through traffic.

But back on topic I think this is a good model for East Boston to follow, rehab old buildings and use materials that mesh well with the fabric. Eastie is a lot more brick and mortar than many other outer neighborhoods so it has a very distinct and unique color pallette. Its not so much brownstones although they are there as it is brick. This building fits in great.
